"I need to talk to you guys about this message..."
I was careful with my words.

"We're listening. Go ahead."
Shiro encouraged.

I hit translate, and English characters appeared on the screen letter by letter. I scanned their faces for their reactions.

'We both knew this would happen. Final fight, tomorrow. Just you and me. One on one. If you win, Lotor promises to never conquer another planet. The coordinates are already with you. I am certain you will not refuse my offer. You are not one to run from a fight. You are not one to cower down. You are not weak enough to turn away. Prove you're stronger."

Nitro balled up her fists.

I watched as Keith reached over, taking her hand gently.

'And if they keep you away, if they keep you from facing your fate...'

Shiro's features hardened.

'I will personally blow your ship to pieces, and save the Paladins to torture for my personal enjoyment.'

Nitro made a move to leave, but Keith held her hand tight.

'I know I'll see you in a few hours. Until then... be prepared.'

The message was over.

"Shiro-"
Nitro started immediately.

"No."
He yelled at her.

"I have to keep you safe!"
She shot back.

"It's too dangerous, Nitro! Sacrificing yourself isn't going to do anything. We're stronger if we stick together! Why don't you understand that?!"
He grabbed her arm roughly.

Keith stepped in front of her.
"Let her go, Shiro."

"See? Keith supports me! Why don't you?"

Misunderstanding. Keith meant let go of her arm. Not go to the fight.

"I'm not letting you go. I'm not letting you get hurt."

"What? Why?!"

"I can't lose you, Nitro!"
He got close to her face, screaming now. His whole face was red.

She pulled away from him.
"Get off of me. This fight is my choice. I thought you'd understand. You know how I feel about this."

"I know how you feel, I'm just saying she's manipulating you. You're strong already. You don't have to prove anything."

"I have to. And... it's not just about that. This is about revenge for letting Spazz die. And keeping you safe. I'm not being manipulated into doing anything, Keith. I'm just being prevented from doing anything."
She snapped harshly.

He let her leave, and no one made any attempt to go after her.

"Allura."

"Yes, Shiro?"

"Shut down the hangars. We can't let her leave. She's going to try, anyways. It doesn't matter what we try to tell her. She won't listen."

I opened my mouth to protest, that this really was her choice.

But was it?

Wasn't she just doing this for herself? Or was she doing this for someone else?
