Third person POV

One year has gone by since Madison's big sister (Y/N) was sent into the maze. Madison made it a daily thing to go into the control room and watch her older sister in the glade, as the boys named it.

Occasionally their father would join and watch the girl run around the glade. There were days (Y/N) would laugh until she cried, days she would cry until she hyperventilated and days where she had to fight to keep herself alive against a person or a griever as the boys named it as well.

Tonight was different though. Madison and her father David stared at the screens worried as the girl ran towards the exit of the maze. The maze doors were on a timer and somehow (Y/N) lost track of time and was dangerously close to being trapped inside the maze.

The beetle blades focused on both (Y/N) and the screaming boys at the edge of the maze. She had been a runner and was at the long hallway leading to the glade when the doors slid together.

"(Y/N) come on!

"Hurry!"

"You can make it!"

"She's dead!"

The boys yelled things to her which only made her run faster. The doors were too close and too far from her. They were about to seal and (Y/N) would be trapped. She wouldn't make it.

David and Madison into each other watching (Y/N) race to the walls. The doors were almost together when a boy ran through the crack and to (Y/N). Newt.

"Newt no!" At least ten boys yelled including Amber.

She skidded to a stop as the doors slammed shut, locking both her and the blonde boy inside. Newt gripped (Y/N) and pulled her off the ground with tears filling both their cheeks like Madison and David's.

"Baby why did you do that?" (Y/N) yelled holding onto Newt's face.

"I'm not loosing you. We're gonna be the first to survive the night in the maze. Okay?" Newt said and pressed their lips together. They enjoyed a sweet kiss which made both Madison and David suddenly relieved that not only was (Y/N) not alone but that she had found love inside the horrible maze.

"We have to hide. Can you run baby?" She asked remembering the fatal injury Newt had, his limp. Madison watched the day he jumped. She watched (Y/N) crumble to the ground with horrific and heart shattering screams as Alby carried Newt out of the maze. That sound will forever haunt her forever.

"I'm good love. C'mon I can run," he said taking her hand and ran deeper into the maze.

That night the four of them didn't sleep. Newt and (Y/N) ran through the maze until they found a hole in one wall and hid inside. This shielded them from any grievers but Madison and David stayed watching the panting couple. They curled into each other with no space between them as they remained silent.

"(Y/N) the doors will open in half an hour. We can head back," Newt said looking at the small watch (Y/N) had inside her runners strap which happened to be tied around her left thigh.

"Does it hurt? I'm sorry I just want you to be okay," (Y/N) said being the first to peek her head out of the hole. When she noticed the coast was clear, she jumped out and held her hand out for Newt to take.

"I'm okay baby girl. We need to get back to the glade." They locked fingers again and ran out of section 3 towards the glade.

They were almost there when the whirring and clicking of a griever stopped them. Madison and David chanted the word no at least a dozen times watching their family member.
