Everyone woke up in the box the same- without memories of anything but our name- but I was different. I had one memory, not that it could assist in us escaping the maze. I remembered the day I was born.

I didn't remember a certain party for a certain age, or even if I ever celebrated my birthday. I couldn't even tell you exactly what age I was turning, but I knew the date, and that was today.

The only person I told was my boyfriend Newt, seeing as it wasn't valuable enough information that would aid in our escape from the maze. He immediately rambled on about the different activities he would do with me that day. He would start the day with us sleeping in late, since Alby never let us do that. Then we would have a picnic lunch on top of the watch tower before partying around a bonfire thrown in my honor.

I told him no to all of those things. Well, I simply just put my hand over his mouth and said, "that isn't how I want to spend my birthday. I don't want this big party to celebrate a day that doesn't mean anything anymore. I just want a day with you." He said he could make that happen.

But that leads to today, where my Second in Command boyfriend couldn't make that happen. It's not that he didn't want to, it was just Alby needing him to do something every second Newt and I had together.

"I'm sorry, love," he said, with his hands on my cheeks. This was his apology right after Alby told him he needed him the second after Newt and I came outside for breakfast. "I promise, we'll spend the rest of the day together after I help Alby, alright?" I nodded, trying to seem okay with it but Newt saw right through me. He kissed me on the forehead before following Alby away from the kitchen.

Then there was the second time he was taken from me. He finally left Alby, and was coming over to work with me in the gardens like we do everyday. He greeted me with a hug and kiss, before kneeling with me in front of the fruit we were told to pick.

Zart rushed over, out of breath and looking very distraught. "Newt, there's two boys fighting. Can you come get them?" He glanced at me with a sorry look. He promised to be right back and left me with another forehead kiss.

This went on one more time at dinner with our friends Minho and Thomas, who were sitting right in front of me. They watched me sadly stare at Newt as he dealt with another issue Alby could easily have handled on his own. Boyfriend stealer.

"What shank got your panties in a twist?" Minho teased while chewing loudly on his food.

"I just wanted this day to be perfect. I wanted it to just be me and my boyfriend on my birthday. Was that too much to ask?" My voice started shaking at the end when tears welled in my eyes. I had been angry all day about Alby taking Newt so now the anger turned to sadness.

"Birthday?" Thomas raised an eyebrow.

My eyes widened when I realized what I said. It wasn't a secret, but I didn't want the whole glade to know it was my birthday today. "Umm, w-what? I-I didn't say birthday. I-I said my... work day, yeah. It's the day that I work really hard." The boys knew instantly that I was lying, but decided not to comment on the stupid cover up I made.

"Why didn't you tell us it was your birthday?" Minho asked, sounding a little hurt. This was part of the reason why.

"Well I didn't want everyone to know. If they knew I remembered my birthday then they probably think I remember other stuff too, like why we were put of the maze, and I don't want that. Plus, I just wanted it to be a day with me and Newt." I shrugged and picked at the food on my plate.

Minho and Thomas exchanged a knowing look before jumping out of their seats. "We have to do something, (Y/N). We'll see you later!" Thomas explained as they rushed off away from the tables, similar to how Newt did twice today. The only time I've gotten with Newt today was this morning when we both first woke up.

Not hungry and very upset everyone had left me today, I abandoned the plate of food in front of me and climbed up to my room in the homestead. I pulled the sheets over my head and prepared to fall asleep, even though it was still really early. Yes, I was being a bit over dramatic but when you don't have much in the glade and that's taken from you, you get kinda depressed.

I didn't realize I had fallen asleep until someone was shaking me awake. Thomas was standing over me with his hand gently nudging my shoulder. I groaned half asleep and turned to face the other way.

"(Y/N), wake up. I have to show you something," he said ripping the covers off my body.

I sluggishly sat up and messed with my bed hair. "Nooo, Tommy," I whined with my hand rubbing my eye.

"Yeees, (Y/N). Come on," he mimicked my tone and pulled me off the bed. I woke myself up more as I walked down the stairs and followed Thomas towards the corner of the glade where Newt and I usually hung out. It was in the open corner, so we had a full view of the entire glade but we were still given privacy from being so far away from the center.

He told me to cover my eyes, so he gently directed me with his hands on my hips to where I needed to go. He tripped over my feet a couple times, making me laugh and almost trip myself. When he stopped me, he told me to keep my eyes closed until he gave me the 'okay'.

A sudden body bumped into my back, knocking me a step further.

"Bloody hell," the person mumbled. I giggled when he put his hands on my hips to steady himself. "Wait, where am I? Is this... is this (Y/N)?" I could hear the smile in his voice when he added, "yup. Hi, my love."

"Hi, Newtie," I used the nickname he used to hate until we started dating. He spun me around until I was against his chest and his arms were sitting on my back.

"So, do you know what we're doing here? Not that I don't like being dragged out somewhere with my eyes closed as much as the next guy," he mumbled feeling his way to my face, me laughing the whole time.

"Okay, lovebirds," Minho announced somewhere behind me. "You can open your eyes and stare at the lovely job I did-" he groaned in pain, "we did," he corrected.

When I opened my eyes, I gasped and covered my mouth with my hands. A large blanket was laid out with different fruits sitting in baskets on top. A bunch of the emergency candles and lanterns were siting on the blanket, giving off a warm orange glow to the setting.

"You guys did this for us?" I asked, and being the softy I am, had tears filling my eyes again.

"We felt bad that you didn't get to celebrate your birthday the way you wanted, so we wanted to make up for that," Thomas grinned, obviously proud of himself for setting this all up, and honestly I was too.

I quickly hugged each boy while profusely whispering thank you's before pushing them away. They laughed and ran off to the center of the glade.

After Newt and I ate some of the food our friends prepared for us, we laid back on the blanket. Newt set my head on his shoulder and his hand around my waist, our other hands linked on his chest.

"This is the best way I could have celebrated my birthday," I said after a while of silence. It wasn't awkward, but it was nice. The two of us were just wrapped up in each others presence which kept us calm and content.

Newt and I laid on that blanket until morning when the maze doors shook us awake. I couldn't remember a single other day in my life- a holiday, anniversary or special event- but remembering this day wouldn't have meant as much as if I didn't have Newt, Minho or Thomas.
