Betrothed! This was the good news my father had for me when I arrived for breakfast this morning. Apparently my fathers army needed assistance and the king of another kingdom was willing to help if his only son married my fathers only daughter."This is unfair!" I yelled as my handmaiden finished helping me dress. I was meeting my fiancé today, only a week before the wedding.
"I know m'lady," she whispered behind me. I never had anyone to talk to.
Well that's a lie. I had someone once, two someone's. Their names were Meera and Jojen Reed. They lived in the same kingdom I did before my father remarried and took over here.
The three of us were best friends. Meera and I would fight with each other, swords and bows, and Jojen and I spent our time talking about dreams and our wishes. I had found myself falling in love with the green eyed boy but was ripped from him after we both announced our love.
I swore never to love again. Jojen was the first and the only one I wanted to love. Whoever this man I would marry was, he would never be Jojen.
"There's my princess," my father said from the door with his arms out as of to display me. I rolled my eyes and finished putting the finishing touches on my wavy hair.
"Sweetheart aren't you excited?" He asked standing behind me in the mirror but I ignored him. "I would never sell you away if it wasn't necessary."
"I haven't even met this man. For all we know, he could be a-"
"A what? Another greenseeer? Sweetheart I know you miss the Reed's. I promise, you'll see them soon," he assured me. I just let a tear fall down my cheek, slightly smearing my makeup. "Come on. He'll be waiting."
I fixed my eyes and took my fathers hand. He led me down many halls until we were brought outside to a small garden.
"Remember what I said. No physical contact until the marriage." I nodded as the three people came into view, two boys and one girl. My father told me no contact was allowed until after we were married because that's how it was with mother.
I walked out of the dim light and into the center of the garden. My father kept his eyes on me as I bent my legs lightly, lowered my head all while sealing my eyes shut as a way of respect.
I rose and opened my eyes. My lips parted as I stared at the group of familiar faces.
"(Y/N)?" The girl asked.
"Meera?" She seemed to nod before running over and engulfing me in a hug. I squeezed her tightly back before closing my eyes again. "Oh Meera. How I've missed you."
"Listen to you. All prim and proper. And grown up!" She cheered before taking my hands as we each eyed each other with smiles.
"Meera. We should leave them to it," her father mentioned before she hugging me again had followed her father and mine deeper into the gardens.
I stood with my hands together before a boy appeared before me. He looked different, a good different. He still had blond hair but it was curled lightly at the ends. He had grown in height, now a full head taller unlike when we were children and I was taller. His green eyes still showed the same burden though. They were dark, like mine, and exhausted as if he was holding the weight of the world in them. But he looked as magnificent as ever.
"M'lady," he whispered holding his hand out for me to take.
"Upon orders of my father, we may not touch until we're married. My apologies," I smiled finding it uncomfortable to speak to him that way.
