"We gotta go! We have to go, NOW!" Thomas screamed, frantically climbing out of an air duct beneath our beds. He had left with a scrawny and short boy- I think his name was Aris- into the air ducts. Thomas hasn't trusted the men who saved us three days ago after we escaped the maze."Tell us what happened?"
"What did you see?"
"Just calm down," we all attempted to get any answers from Thomas but like usual, we weren't getting any.
"I saw her! She's alive!" He screamed.
"Who-who did you see, Thomas?" I questioned but he kept his focus on panicking.
"Teresa?" Frypan asked.
"Ava," he whispered.
"Ava? Who's Ava?" Newt asked over Fry's questions to Aris. He stood there dazed with his eyes glued to the floor. He was no help either.
Thomas ripped one of the cots off the set of bunk beds and stripped the sheet from it. He tied the handle of the door to a bar beside it to keep it from opening. He lifted the mattress and pressed it against the door.
"It's Wicked! It's still Wicked!" Thomas suddenly screamed staring at us. He returned his attention to the door.
Newt stood beside him and forced Thomas to shift his focus on him.
"What did you see?" He demanded calmly.
"We have to get out of here now," Thomas said taking small steps back from the door. None of us knew what to do. I mean who would? We were a group of messy teenagers thrown into an adult war we had no part in. We were just surviving.
"We can go through the ducts. Like Thomas and Aris did," Frypan offered.
We all agreed and entered one by one into the duct until only myself, Minho and Newt were left.
"Ladies first," Minho smirked. Newt's jaw clenched before he smacked the back of Minho's head.
"You just wanna watch her bloody arse," he said angrily. He turned to me and softened his features. "I'll be right behind you, love."
I climbed in after Fry and followed the trail of boys. The duct was steamy and echoing with the sounds of hands on the reflective metal under our hands. Minho whined a few times about how slow we were going making Newt stop abruptly, so Minho's face would hit his arse or thigh. I giggled every time but kept up with Fry.
We finally emerged from the ducts and entered an empty hall. We all stood for a moment, unsure of where to go. We had escaped the room but were now lost instead of cornered. This wasn't much of an improvement.
"There's something I have to do first. I'll meet you guys at the entrance," Aris informed us.
"But how are you-" Thomas began but Winston cut him off.
"I-I'll go with him. Go." Aris and Winston climbed back into the ducts and closed the lid behind them.
"Where do we go?" I asked the boys.
"We have to find Teresa. We'll go this way," Thomas said leading us down a hall. The moment we all entered it, someone stood in our way.
A female doctor stood shocked blocking our path to exit. Her face suddenly shifted from fear to confusion before realization.
"What are you kids doing out?" Before we could answer, a loud alarm began echoing through the halls. Newt and I exchanged a look reassuring the other that this would work out, even though we each had our doubts.
