Thomas, who was leading the group down the dimly lit hallway, suddenly stopped, causing a few people to stumble into the person ahead of them. Glancing up, we noticed the sign bolted above the door where the word 'EXIT' was glowing in green letters.

"Seriously?" Frypan asked, sarcasm dripping from his voice. We had fought for days, weeks, months, years, and this was our reward? This is what we spent 3 years searching for? This is what we lost so many friends for?

Thomas hesitantly placed his hand on the door handle and pushed the door open. One by one each of us stepped into the room, following the line Thomas was leading. The room was silent but the stench in the room took up enough of our senses.

Metallic blood slid down the walls and into small puddles on the floor. I jumped against the closest wall when I noticed the trail I was leaving behind after stepping in one of the puddles. I kicked the heel of my feet across the floor to wipe off the blood from my shoe.

"Hey, hey," a soft voice said while stopping me from rushing around. Newt calmed me down before placing his hand inside mine and leaving the small hallway into the larger part of the room.

Newt brought me to a wall of computers, each with a different angle of the glade. My eyes were locked on the screen in the top left corner with a perfect angle of the homestead- a griever tearing it down.

"They got in," I gasped, scanning the other screens of the grievers that were taking over the glade- our glade.

"So they were watching us," Newt said beside me. We knew that the beetle blade's eyes were cameras, but we didn't know they had hundreds of them taking video of everything in the glade. Wicked saw everything that happened; every bonfire, every party, every run, every death, and yet they did nothing to stop it.

"Hi, my name is Doctor Ava Paige," a loud woman's voice from behind caused Newt and I to both jump. He glanced at me before guiding us towards the others who had gathered in front of a projected image of a blonde headed woman.

The woman was explaining why we were in the maze, what happened to earth, and where we would go now. All the while, guards were invading the room behind her, their guns aimed at every doctor and scientist inside the room. Bullet holes filled the glass behind her as she pulled a smaller, silver gun our from her desk.

"Wicked is good," she said as she placed the gun at the side of her head and pulled the trigger. Newt spun me towards his chest so that I couldn't watch, and I reminded myself to thank him later for that.

Once the projector turned off, a door on the other side of the room lifted open, bringing real bright light into the room. We had been stuck in an underground maze for years, thinking that the sky above us was real. But out those doors, it really was.

"What do we do now?" Newt asked Thomas, who had been unofficially deemed leader- a stupid decision really. Newt looked down at me, a sliver of a smile curling on his lips as we tasted our freedom. Out those doors, we were free.

Thomas stared at the open doors in front of us before whispering, "I don't know." He took a step closer to the doors, ready to exit through them, when a deep voice halted all of us.

"No." The voice was harsh, full of emotion and anger that was said through gritted teeth. All of us spun around to find the source of the voice, and gasped when we saw our friend. Gally dropped the key to the ground, leaving the arm to shake uncontrollably at his side. Our eyes widened when we noticed what was in his other hand: a matching gun to Doctor Ava's.
