Running a glade wasn't easy, but Alby and Newt made it look like it was. I knew Newt was having a hard time lately trying to juggle everything from his mind to his title to his girlfriend- if it wasn't obvious, it's me. So that's why when the day for a new greenie came, I offered to give the tour instead."Thank you so much, love," he said pulling me into his chest for a side hug. We had been together for two years and in the maze for almost three. We had gone through every up and down imaginable so we were pretty solid.
"Of course Newt," I smiled up at him, "I have to help out my boy." He pecked my forehead and returned his attention to the opening of the box since the alarm had rung only minutes ago.
"What do you see?" Someone asked Gally as he pulled the door open and leaned over the edge.
"Uh (Y/N), you're gonna want to see this," he said turning to me.
I left Newt and ran towards the edge of the box and peeked over. At the bottom, was a girl lying flat on her back with her eyes closed. She had short black hair, reaching the length of her shoulders, and pale white skin. She was a pretty girl, but she looked to be the age of 12.
"The second girl we get and she's like 12," a boy groaned from the crowd but shut up once another boy hit him over the head. It was weird though. Three years of me being the only girl so why send one up now?
I jumped into the box and mentally cursed myself for the shaking the bloody thing so much. I kneeled beside her and pushed a few strands of hair that were sticking to her forehead.
At my slightest touch, she gasped and sat up straight. I jumped back a little in fright but quickly calmed myself down for her sake.
"Hey hey, it's okay. It's okay," I said in a quiet voice to calm her. Her blue eyes darted around the box, then scanned over the rest of her gladers before falling on me.
"W-who are you?" She asked shaking a little. She backed up and I hesitantly put my hands out as if not to frighten her.
"Hey, my names (Y/N). Can you tell me yours?" I said watching her cross her legs in front of her.
She looked off for a minute before her eyes locked on a boy above me. I looked at where her eyes went and smiled as I saw them land on Newt.
"My name? It's umm, it's umm... El (Eleanor Roosevelt)," she said looking at me. "Who are you? Where am I? Why did you bring me here?"
"Hey, calm down, okay? I will explain everything. I promise," I said to reassure her but I'm almost positive it did nothing. It never did. The greenies were always too scared to calm down when someone asked them to- me included.
"Boys!" I yelled above me. "I want no one putting a single hand on this girl without my permission. Okay?" A few of them nodded, I'm assuming because they were afraid of me.
This was something I wanted someone to do for me when I got here. Sure Alby made the rule eventually but it took two weeks for the rule to be put in place. I know I wanted someone to protect me so that's what I was gonna do.
"All you lot, go back to your bloody jobs!" Newt called making what I said clearer. I smiled up at him and blushed when he winked at me. Even after dating for this long, he still had the same blushing effect on me.
I turned back to El and saw her fidgeting with the helm of her shirt. She looked so young to be in this mess. Even I was around 14 when I was sent up here so she seemed to be way too young to be here with the rest of us. I just hoped she would get along.
"Would you like to get out of this box and I'll explain everything to you?" I offered. She perked up and happily smiled. Maybe having another girl here would be great!
