* So after I posted the first part to this, I had like a hundred (exaggerating haha) comments for a part 2.  I was planning on killing off the reader and not making a part 2 but I decided to do it anyway. I hope this is what everyone had in mind! And a part 3 is in the works :) *

Third Person POV

The group had done the impossible- they escaped the maze they had been trapped inside for three years. The group had lost many friends both inside the maze the day the grievers began attacking and for their way out of the maze. Their group of 50 had dramatically decreased to less than 10, but they were safe.

They were taken from Wicked and brought to a facility where they were promised safety and resources. Most of the group was more than happy for the new clothes, beds, and food that they were never given in the maze. They slept in like they were never able to do, they ate until their stomachs were full, and laughed with their friends instead of rushing off to work before Alby would notice they weren't working. They felt free.

Newt wasn't the same since (Y/N) left. Not just in the way his depression slowly crept its way back into his mind, but the way he spoke around the other boys. When (Y/N) was here, he would spend every second of his time with her either helping her with her work or hiding somewhere where the two of them could be alone. But now he was still just as busy, only he was filling his time with work.

He became agitated more easily and snapped at the boys quicker than he usually would. He now was the harsher leader of the two of them, and lost most of the other friendships he had besides (Y/N). Nobody realized how much she actually affected Newt, especially him.

Newt was slowly telling the greenie about (Y/N) as the days progressed. He felt very comfortable around the newbie and spent most of his time with him; he became his new and only friend in the glade.

He told him the base of what (Y/N) was- her looks, her basic personality, and generic things the two of them did with each other since he was still too scared to open up with someone. Thomas was happy to hear about this girl and they both wished she could have met him.

Thomas, however, was questioning every choice Newt was making about this entire situation. From the second he arrived in the glade, he didn't agree with what was going on and thus began the uneasiness at this new 'safe place' these people had promised them. The other tried convincing Thomas he was being paranoid, but something was eating too much at Thomas's mind for him to ignore it.

That's how he came to meet Aris, a boy whom the group noticed sitting all alone inside the cafeteria of the facility. The group- along with most of the other teenagers- thought he was crazy, but Thomas believed in the weird kid. Which is why he ended up acting out in front of everybody at dinner.

"You didn't really think they were just gonna let you through?" Newt questioned Thomas with a furious look on his face. He knew Thomas was a little more brave- or stupid-  than the others, but he didn't think he was that dumb to try and outrun one of the guards.

"No, of course not," Thomas replied, pulling out the ID card of the guard he ran into. The others sighed and nodded, grateful that Thomas at least had a reason to do what he did. Thomas noticed Newt shaking his head and quickly turned to defend himself. "Newt, they're hiding something. These people are not who they say they are."

"No, Thomas we don't know that," Newt shot back. His darker side coming out and he immediately remembered how (Y/N) was always the one to calm him down. She was the one to keep him from snapping at the boys as quickly as he had, but now he didn't care- he had no one to hide his darker side from.
