The girls took us through the scorch sharing stories with me about their glade. I shared some of my own and told them about the day we escaped. I even told Sonya a little bit about Newt since she noticed me blush when she asked if any boy caught my eye.For the most part, the girls glade was like ours. They had a maze filled with grievers, they had a new girl come up once a month with supplies and had only two boys where we had two girls.
They had a leader and a second in command like we did, but they called them different things. They didn't call them Runners, they called them Mappers. They called our Track-Hoes, Planters. And instead of Sloppers, they called them Messers. They had other words too like we did, which made me laugh whenever one girl would call another a 'stick'.
Walking in the scorch was still agonizing, but the girls assured us we were close to where we needed to go. I just hoped the boys would be there.
"Harriet! There's a group coming," a girl called from the side of the group causing all of us to stop. Harriet gave the girls specific instructions to only shoot at her command and for Brenda and I to stay in the back.
They came over a large hill to look down on the group the girl mentioned. A few gasps were heard when all the girls lifted their arrows at them.
"What are you doing out here?" Harriet asked them just like she asked us.
"We're looking for the Safe Haven. We were told it was at the edge of the mountains," a familiar voice said.
"We came from Wicked. They said we had two weeks to find the Safe Haven and get out of the scorch," a British accent said, one that I would have known anywhere I was. Newt.
I ran to the front of the girls and looked down at the boys below me. Newt's messy blond hair stood out to me first when he smiled up at me.
"(Y/N)!" He yelled and ran towards me. I ran down the small hill, stumbling a bit, before crashing into him. I curled my arms around his neck to pull us as close as possible. One of his hands rested on my back and the other held the back of my head.
"You're okay," he mumbled into my hair. We pulled away enough to share a quick kiss.
"Umm, (Y/N)," Minho said nervous to break up Newt and I. "Who are your friends?"
I spun out of Newt's chest to where I could see the girls but still be inside Newt's arm. "These are the girls from group B. They were in there own maze."
"These are the group A boys?" Sonya asked shocked to see them. I smiled and nodded while watching Brenda walk over to Jorge and pull him into a hug.
"As we told (Y/N) and Brenda, you're welcome to join us to the Safe Haven," Harriet announced while motioning for the girls to lower their weapons. They all did quickly and stared at the boys in awe.
"Aris?" Sonya then yelled while running down the hill towards him where they were happily reunited too.
"I missed you," I said holding onto Newt while the other boys walked towards us. Fry was the first to pull me from Newt and into his chest. After a few minutes of reunions between all of us- Aris with the girls and Brenda with Jorge- we continued walking towards the mountains. Newt this time left our hands linked for fear of losing me again.
More agonizing hours were spent walking... well trudging through the scorch until we spotted something far away. Thomas was the first to run to it and inspect it. It was a stick driven into the ground with the words 'Safe Haven' written on it.
"Seriously? This is it?!" Minho yelled obviously furious. We worked so hard and this was our reward: a shucking piece of wood. So many of our friends died to get us here and it was all for nothing.
