*Warning: some dirty suggestions*We thought the maze was hard. Then we thought the scorch was hard. This, this was a nightmare.
Ratman gave us the list of names of non-immune kids; kids who were infected with the flare virus.
-- flashback --
"I will now read the list of non-immune kids from group A," Ratman began while holding out his paper clipped on a clipboard.
He named a few boys who had already passed when we were inside the glade, Alby included which broke my heart. But then the next name came.
"Newt."
I could feel my heart sink out of my chest and my blood run cold. My heart skipped a beat and my eyes darted to him who was standing beside me with our hands already linked together.
His expression was unreadable. His eyes were locked on a square pattern in the floor and he lost his grip on my hand. Never had I ever seen someone look so broken.
"And last but not least, (Y/N)."
"You bloody bastard!" Newt screamed beside me as he swung his fist at the guard to his left. He tackled the man to the ground as Ratman ran out the door. Newt shouted inaudible words as he pounded his fist into the guards face.
"Newt!" I shrieked, finally breaking out of my trance. I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him with all my strength until he stood beside me.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him into me as people dragged the bloody guard out of the room. Newt didn't move for a moment as I buried my face in his neck. He slowly put his hand on the back of my head and held me with as much force as I was.
"Guys, maybe... maybe it's not true," Thomas said behind Newt trying to lift our spirits. It didn't work though. Nothing could.
It wasn't knowing that a disease was inside my body. That I would slowly lose everything I hold dear because of an infection in my brain. It wasn't the thought of going crazy and digging my own eyes out. It was knowing Newt would do all of those things.
"It's okay. It's okay," I whispered into his ear while feeling his heartbeat return to normal against my chest.
"Maybe we can-" Minho began but Newt stopped him.
"No, no." He spun around to face the others with his arm still around my waist. "There's nothing we can do."
"But what about-" Thomas added but I cut him off this time.
"Boys," I said making them all quiet. They knew in the glade that when I said that, to shut up and give me their attention. I was like their mother and Newt was their father, but right now they were about to lose their best friends.

FanfictionI'm a hopeless romantic so I write stories about The Maze Runner's Newt or Thomas Brodie Sangster. Most of them are sweet but some are heartbreaking. Thanks for reading and voting! :)
