This is based off a true story that happened in my elementary school. Know that two of the people who were involved in my argument hate me now or have nothing to do with me. Why do I relate to Michael so dang much? They're in like... fourth or fifth grade during this. Smol Boyfs.
"So that's why Mario is clearly superior. Especially compared to a hedgehog who acts before thinking." Michael finished, holding his Mario plushy close to him. "Now Jeremy you may give your argument."
"Thank you Michael." Jeremy stepped on to the small chair and looked at the other chairs.
One seated Michael, the rest seated an abundance of stuffed animals since they had no friends other than themselves.
"Okay so why I do agree with most of what Michael is saying, Mario actually dies. Sonic doesn't die until he loses every ring he has and since there are so many, it's almost impossible to die, unless of course you can't play the game." Jeremy began, pretending to clear his throat to feel smart. "As for his weakness to water, Mario dies in water too, via Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Unlike the plumber though, Sonic is very clearly warned that he's going to die from the music that plays when he's close to death."
"Objection!!" Michael yelled, pointing his finger out in the same pose as Phoenix Wright.
"Yes Michael?"
"Mario gets a warning from his health meter."
"True. Back to what I was saying. Sonic is single, not tied down by a whiney princess-"
"What about Elise?"
"WE DO NOT SPEAK HER NAME! That thing is not a princess!!" Jeremy yelled and Michael quickly nodded in fear the boy's voice might get louder. "Ahem, anyways, he's not tied down by a princess or the responsibility of a younger sibling. He also doesn't need the held off a dinosaur to get apast danger. Because he runs through it, oh yeah, and he can run on water."
"First, he has the annoying pink hedgehog you call Any, second, Tails is basically Sonic's equivilent to Luigi, don't lie, third, Yoshi is an amazing addition to Mario games so there is no reason to act like he's a burden."
"I'm just saying, Sonic is more independent than Mario is." Jeremy crossed his arms after readjusting his Sonic hat. Michael rolled his eyes and face palmed.
"So? That's not a problem, we're dependent on others."
"But we aren't two of gaming's biggest names either."
"True true...But I just don't think Sonic's better. Mario is the classic, iconic, household name for gamers everywhere, Sonic is just Nintendo's awkward cousin that got a job at Sega."
"I don't care, Sonic's still cool!"
"I never said he wasn't, but Mario is cooler!"
"No he's not!"
"Yes he is!"
"Not!"
"Is!!"
"Boys are you two alright?" Mrs. Mell walked in and the boys both had their arms crossed and weren't looking straight each other. "Umm...Paul, Jeremy and Michael got into an argument I think." She yelled and Mr. Heere came up the steps.
"Jeremy, what happened?"
"Michael said Mario was better than Sonic!" Jeremy stomped his foot, a post on his lip.
"And Jeremy said Sonic is better than Mario! Mama tell him he's wrong!" Michael looked at his mother and she looked over to Mr. Heere with confusion in her eyes.
"They've never gotten this heated about games before..." She whispered.
"Yeah I've never seen Jeremy so...not fragile." He whispered back, and the boys were sticking their tongues out at each other.
"I'm not gonna talk to you until you admit that I'm right!" Jeremy yelled and Michael gave him a heated expression.
"F-Fine!! But don't come crying w-when you realize I'm r-right..." Michael walked to his mom and grabbed her hand. "Let's go home mama." Was all he said as Jeremy watched him leave.
They kept their little bet. All day the next day they didn't speak a word to each other. They didn't even eat lunch together.
At recess, Michael sat alone on the swings while Jeremy sat in the gazebo attempting to draw and failing, most the drawings going into the trash can.
There a partner assignment but the two would not do it together, which surprised their teachers. A lot.
The day went on and when the final bell rang, Jeremy left class without even saying goodbye. Michael saw him get on the bus and sighed.
How did he let one fight get so severe. He had to make it up to Jeremy, or he'd go crazy.
When he seen his mom's car he looked into the mirror, making sure she could see his reflection.
"Hey mama?"
"Yes Michael?"
"Can we go to GameStop?" Michael asked and his mom nodded. He knew just what he had to do.
The next day at school, during their inside recess(yay rain), Michael walked over to Jeremy, unsure if he'd listen.
"Jere. I'm sorry." Michael said and Jeremy turned around, his face almost as heartbroken as Michael's. "I...I got you this to make up for it." He held a bag out, and handed it to Jeremy.
Inside was a bunch of Sonic merchandise, from games to plushies to shirts.
"Michael you didn't have to...thank you. I'm sorry to. I got you something to apologize with as well." Jeremy gave Michael a bag similar to the one he had received.
Michael pulled out a Mario hat and put it on his head, reaching in and finding a plushy and three games.
"Jeremy... Thank you." Michael smiled and the two hugged tightly. "I missed you..."
"I missed you too."
"You wanna come over to my place today?" Michael sounded happier already.
"Okay." So did Jeremy.
The two walked out hand in hand to see Mrs. Mell pulled up, ready to take them home.
"I see you too made up rather quickly." She giggled and the boys nodded.
"We're never gonna let anything make us fight again." Jeremy claimed and Michael nodded.
"Now, let's go home and open these games!!" Michael yelled and Jeremy cheered with him.
Mrs. Mell was just glad to see them not fighting again.
Okay that was cute don't lie. So when I was in third or fourth grade, my friend... we'll call her Perry, was mad because I said Sonic could run faster than a Cheetah if he were real and she took it seriously, and we went around asking kids their opinion and it got so bad my other friend, we'll call her Bree, cried over it.
One of them hates me and both of them ignore me now.
Knowing Perry is popular now makes me happy we're not friends. The argument isn't why we're not friends, it's because Perry got jealous of my new friend, claiming he brain washed me into liking what he liked, then she left for some popular kids.
Some friend am I right?
Oh wait she sounds like Jeremy...but she never came back.
