Chapter 7 Cleo's training lesson

Frederick was tossing and turning in his sleep having a nightmare.
He could see his Mother tied up to the tree burning away as her leafy ears and tail disintegrated.
She was crying in agony. "MOM!" Frederick hollered out as he tried to run to her only for a Mon to step on his tail and pull him back.
"Not so fast, little one!" He turned his head back to see it was Cleo.
The Shiny Ninetales was staring at him with amusement glowing in his red burning eyes.
"Now, now let's not get too hasty here, the show is only just getting started." He said with mockery in his voice.
Then Frederick could hear his two brothers screaming in agony. He turned back towards the tree and to his horror he saw Denny and Shawn both burning alive next.
"NO!!" Frederick screamed as he tried to reach them but couldn't get free of Cleo's gripe then in heartbeats they both disintegrated just the same way their mother had.
"DENNY!! SHAWN!!"

"Frederick? Frederick Wake up!" His eyes flew open and the first thing he saw was his sister's face.
He was sweaty and his face was full of tears from the dream.
He glanced around the cave at first feeling worried until he remembered that Denny and Shawn were both gone as they had escaped the night before.
He let out a sigh of relief.
"Was it a nightmare?" Scarlet suddenly broke his thoughts with the question.
He sat up wiping his tears away. "Yes, but I'm just glad it was only a dream." Richard sat up and grunted. "I'm not surprised you're having nightmares after what happened last night, it's just sick you're both way too young for this bullshit, no kid your age should ever have to go through this, we're a broken family now."
Frederick felt sad as he realized what his Father was saying was true.
'And to think that just yesterday we were having a good play day until Darle happened'
Then Frederick had an empty feeling in his gut he missed his two brothers and started wondering if he really ever would see them again.
'It's not fair because we'll never get a chance to go look for them because we live as prisoners now.'
That thought was making Frederick feel depressed. Then the Absol walked into the cave. "Ok, rise and shine! Darle wants to see you now!"
"This better be good!" Richard grunted as he got to his paws and padded out with Frederick and Scarlet right behind him.
As they padded up to the tree where Darle stood the Absol suddenly snorted.
"Wait where's the rest of you?"
Richard gave a low threatening snarl.
"I'll never tell!"
"Why you peace of sh-"
"Erand! I am very disappointed in you!"
Darle interrupt.
The Absol gave a growler still glaring at Richard who just returned the glare.
"Erand you were on guard duty last night it was your responsibility to make sure no Mon escaped!" Darle scolds.
"Who was on guard with you?" before the Shiny Absol could answer Cleo did.
"It was Kristy!" The shiny Delpohx hung her head. "I'm sorry sir they were just kids I didn't think-"
"Well then do less thinking and more actions next time!" Cleo didn't let her finish her sentence.
Erand ran towards Richard in a threatening manner.
"This is your fault! I'll-"
Cleo suddenly jumped on the Absol and then shoved his face into the dirt.
"You've got no Mon to blame but yourself and Kristy, Erand! It was your duty." He criticized the Absol before getting off of him.
"I agree with Cleo! Shame on you Erand. I don't think you'll be getting that third-in-command position anymore."
"WHAT!" He exclaimed.
"But I worked so hard for that position and you promised me Darle!"
"Well, you're clearly not working that hard if two little Eevees could sneak away without you noticing! Now you and Kristy go out there and find them!" The shiny Charizard ordered.
Then before the Absol could say anything more Cleo gave him a hard shove.
"Well get on it then! If you want to earn that position better do as he says!"
"Roger that!" and with that, the Shiny Absol and Delphox took off running for the camp exit together.
Frederick couldn't help but to feel anxious.
"You don't think they'll find them, do you?" He asked Scarlet.
She shook her head. "No, I don't think so I think Charlie is clever he knows what he's doing," she replied sounding more confident than Frederick felt which took him by surprise.
Then Darle waved one of his wings gesturing for them to come forward.
"What do you want?" Richard asked in a mean voice.
Dale ignored their Father and gazed down at him and Scarlet. "Tell me, what are your names, little ones? I know your Dad is called Richard."
Scarlet quivered as she looked very nervous to be standing before the Shiny Charizard.
"You're not gonna hurt us are you?" She asked.
"Of course not your both shinies, why would you think that?"
"Oh, well I don't know, maybe because you murdered their Mother right in front of them!"
Richard replied sarcastically.
Cleo turned towards him and then smiled.
"Hehe, I like you, Richard, you know a Houndoom is just what we needed and just look at those bored shoulders" He compliments as he pads around him looking him up and down.
"Cleo is right, I am looking for a Mon to be third in command around here, I could really use you Rich." Darle remarked.
"Thanks but no thanks! I don't want to serve a Mon who destroyed my family and traumatized my kids!"
Cleo just smirks at him. "Hmm, well see about that, I think in time I can change your mind."
Richard just let out a snort.
"Pfft good luck with that!" he huffed.
Cleo turned his red gaze back on Scarlet and Frederick. "Now getting back to you two, what are your names?"
"I'm Frederick," he responded.
"And I'm Scarlet."
"Ah, those are nice names, now any idea of what you want to evolve into?"
"Why? Aren't we still young to evolve?"
Frederick asked.
"Maybe but not for much longer, we just want to know so we can help."
"Well, I want to be Flareon and my sister here wants to evolve into Espeon."
"Hmmm," The shiny Ninetales looked to be in deep thought. "Ok, I'll help you find a Firestone."
Frederick did feel happy at that idea.
'At least I'll still get to evolve into Flareon and soon by the sounds of it'
Then he glanced at Scarlet.
"And as for you, that will be easy. All you have to do is train for it."
"Yes, Cleo is going to be your personal trainer."
Darle confirmed.
"Now I'll leave them to you Cleo, I'm gonna go out for a flight to ensure that there are no trespassers in my forest." and with that, he took off."
"Ok, kids, you heard him starting today I'll be your trainer until you are fully grown, now let's skedaddle."
Richard got in his way.
"Not so fast! These are my kids, I should be the one training them!"
"Oh, well how would you like to come with us?"
"Or how about I take them and you just stay outta the way!"
"Hehe, I'm sorry but if I allowed that, I'm more than sure you guys would try to make a break for it."
Richard padded over and stood in front of them defensively.
"Take one more step towards them and I'll rip you to shreds! I'm not letting you take them anywhere!" He challenges.
"Alright, then a battle it is!" The Ninetales scoffed, getting into a battle stance.
"Pay close attention kids, you might learn a thing or two from this."
"SHUT UP IM THE ONE WHO GIVES THEM LESSIONS NOT YOU!" Richard howled as he barreled into the Ninetales taking him down with Foul play.
Cleo looked stunned by the move then rolled away in time to avoid Richard's snapping jaws.
"Whoa! That was a close one!" He mused.
"SHUT UP!" He roared then used dark plus but Cleo was fast as he avoided it then used Confuse Ray, Richard tried to use shadow ball but hurt himself due to his confusion then Celo seized his opportunity and used Giga impact along with other moves until the Shiny Houndoom fainted.
Frederick felt panic seeing his Father go unconscious.
"DAD!" Frederick yelled.
"Oh don't fret, he'll get back up in an hour or so," Cleo reassured them, seeing that Scarlet looked just as upset.
"Now come along." Cleo waved his tales in a gesture for them to follow.
As Frederick and Scarlet both padded after him he couldn't help feeling frustrated that their Father had lost, he'd so much rather train with their dad.
'That's the way it's supposed to be isn't it?'
Frederick thought to himself.

Once they were out in the forest, Cleo sat down.
"Ok, now show me what you've got."
Frederick and Scarlet both got into a battle stance then Frederick politely gestures to his younger sister. "You go first, Scarlet."
She dipped her head, her eyes were glowing with anticipation. Then she started off with Swift, but Frederick was ready for it he dodged the move and then used a quick attack to get closer to her but then he was taken off guard as she suddenly used tackle and got him. "Nice one Scarlet!"
Cleo remarks. Then Frederick took this opportunity to hit her with a swift.
"Now don't ever allow yourself to become distracted, Scarlet this is a battle after all," Cleo said.
Frederick dived at her going for tackle but she moved away in time then hit him with Swift.
Then as she came at him with a tail whip he rolled away in time and hit her with swift again then when she lost her balance he used a quick attack then tackle right after and she gave a yell of defeat.
"You win! I surrender." Frederick got off of her then Cleo hissed. "Hey! What do you think you're doing? Did I tell you to stop?"
He shook his head. "She's done, she said."
"Well it doesn't look like it to me, she's still standing."
"If I keep attacking her she'll faint." Frederick objected.
"Precisely!" He replied with a smirk.
"That's the point in battle, to keep fighting until the other Mon has fainted." Frederick was taken aback by what he had just heard.
"No, our Father taught us that if the other Mon shows mercy you're supposed to-"
"Your Father isn't here right now, is he?" Cleo sneered. "And honestly that way is weak! I'm teaching you how to be fearless, we Shinies give no mercy! Now finish her off! We're not going back to camp until one of you has fainted!"
Frederick and Scarlet exchanged shocked glances. "That's abuse!" Scarlet retorted.
"If you think losing a battle is abuse then I think you have some issues there."
Frederick got mad and then hit the Ninetales with Swift.
Cleo gave a mocking laugh.
"Hahaha! Do you really think you can take me on? now that's a good joke, now finish her off or I will!" He snapped. But Frederick held his ground and Scarlet joined him.
"Hmm, I must say I admire your courage, you'll both turn out to be excellent fighters, now quite wasting my time!" But they didn't listen instead they both hit him with Swift's attack which now made him mad. "Ok, that does it! Now it's time to teach you both a lesson!"
He used Shadow ball on both of them causing them both to go flying back.
Frederick felt the breath knock out of him as he banged into a tree before hitting the earth.
He tried to get back up but it was useless. The move was too powerful for him and Scarlet to handle then the Ninetales started heating up using the move heat wave.
'Oh, Arceus if only I were a Flareon right now!'
Frederick thought as Cleo hit them both with a massive Heat Wave causing everything to go black as Frederick fainted right after the hit.
