Chapter 8 A New Life Begins

Denny's P.O.V.

Denny and Shawn were both padding behind Charlie as they were still in the forest.
Denny couldn't help feeling on edge knowing that they couldn't get caught this time or he and Shawn would suffer a terrible death.
Charlie halted and sniffed the air. Shawn was quivering beside Denny; he reeked of fear but at least he had the sense to be quiet.
"Hey, it's ok we're almost there." The Jolteon whispered with reassurance in his voice as they continued to creep through the woodland.
Denny was relieved that it was nightfall it would be difficult for any Mon to spot them unless they were a dark type that is.
Then finally to get to the end of the Woodland.
"Ok, on my signal we need to make a break for it, Darle keeps Mons on watch near the edges of the tree line to make sure no Mon can get out."
Shawn exchanges a worried glance with Denny.
He placed a reassuring paw on his younger brother. "It's ok Shawn we'll make it, I'll be right beside you." He promised.
"Ok, three, two, one, Go!" On his cue, they all made a mad dash through the woodland and onto an empty field which Denny found Quite suspenseful knowing that they were now out in the open and any Mon could spot them anytime now. "Keep running!" Charlie yelled.
Denny kept pushing himself harder but he was starting to get tired. They finally got across the field and made it to some new woodland. Denny felt surprised the ground under paw here felt softer on his pads then he noticed that Shawn started falling behind. "I can't keep going, I'm too exhausted!" he wails out as he collapses on the ground. The Jolteon halted. "Ok, this is probably far enough anyway, we put some distance between us, and the shiny forest." Denny growled. "So it's called shiny forest now?"
Charlie just blinked at him. "Anywhere Darle goes is called the shiny Forest." Then the Jolteon began slowly padding through the shrubs and trees.
Denny ran over to help Shawn up. The Eevee was gasping for air. "Come on there's water over here!" Charlie called out. "Come on Shawn just a little further and we can have some water." He said trying to give his brother courage to move, which worked then once they got to the water's edge Shawn dunked his whole head in then shook water droplets everywhere. "Ahh, that's much better!" then he began drinking. Denny was thinking about diving in for a Quick cool down but paused when he noticed tears in Jolteon's eyes as he sat quietly gazing into the water. Denny was puzzled by this.
'Why is he crying? We're the ones who just watched our mother die and got separated from our family' Then Denny felt a stab of pain realizing that Scarlet and Frederick were gone now and there was a good chance he may not ever see them again.
Shawn lifted his head up from drinking to cast a side glance at Charlie. "Why are you crying?" he asked then the Jolteon quickly wiped his tears away looking embarrassed. "Um, it's nothing.."
"No, it's something, you can tell us," Denny said, wanting to know what was on Jolteon's mind.
The Jolteon was quiet for a few moments then he let out a deep sigh.
"I remember when I first saw Julie, she was the most beautiful Mon I've ever seen"
Denny immediately felt uncomfortable realizing that Charlie had feelings for their mother.
'Ok, this isn't awkward or anything....'
"And the way she looked at me, I could just tell it was love at first sight." Shawn was shuffling his paws looking just as awkward as Denny felt.
"But then she fell in the lake and I wanted to save her but Richard got in the way and kept snarling at me-"
"Wait, you're the Mon who pushed our mother into the lake?" Shawn interrupts him.
Charlie frowned. "You only heard it from your Father's side but you've never heard mine."
"Well, actually we also heard from our Mother's side of the story as well." Denny pointed out.
"Ok, well let me tell you my story now."
Shawn rolled his eyes as the Jolteon went on.
"You see your dad was picking a fight with me the moment I arrived, then when I tried to talk to Julie he attacked me which caused Julie to lose her balance and fall in, she nearly drowned but I didn't let Richard stop me from pulling her out, but unfortunately because she was unconscious she forgot what even happened.
Richard lied to her and said that I pushed her in deliberately on purpose and from that moment she hated me."
"WHAT!" Denny exclaimed in disbelief.
Trying to put together why their father would do such a thing.
'He lied to us about how they Met! He's a cheating Raticate! He thinks just because he's shiny he can get away with anything!'
"Denny! Don't tell me you actually believe this story!" Shawn broke his thoughts.
Denny gave it another thought.
'Hmm, maybe it's not true, but yet again Richard can get pretty hostile fast when it comes to strangers'
"It's ok I don't expect you kids to believe my story, Richard is your father anyway."
Shawn growled. "If you hate our father so much then why did you help him?"
Charlie just shrugged. "I had to, I couldn't just let two Eevees as young as you die, what kind of Mon would I be if I did?" He paused letting out a deep sigh.
"Besides you two remind me of my own trauma when I was about your age, I went through the same thing, I lost my family, in fact, I was the only one who escaped." He paused as more tears came down his cheeks. He wiped them away then growled. "Curse Darle! He's a terrible Mon alive, too many murders so many broken families, all this pain and suffering!"
Denny felt his claws slip out hearing all this about the Shiny Charizard.
'All of that just because Mons like us aren't Shiny! We don't deserve this!'
"Well someone should just kill Darle, no more Darle no shiny forest simple as that."
Denny states. Shawn nodded in agreement.
"Denny's right! I bet lots of Pokemon must want him dead by now knowing how many families he ruined, someone should just kill him." Charlie lets out a snicker.
"Heh, You think no Mon has tried before? Darle is strong and has too many loyal allies on his side, besides in the last attempt to stop him the whole forest got destroyed because he burnt it down."
Denny and Shawn exchange shocked glances with each other. Then Denny thought about Scarlet and Frederick.
'they're not loyal to Darle, they live like prisoners and they can't be the only ones'
He smirked. "I bet lots of those shinies don't even want to be in his camp, maybe we could get some shiny allies to join us in an attack."
"Wait.. did you just say us?" Shawn asked and Denny nodded. "Denny, are you crazy? We can't defeat Darle!"
"Oh, come on Shawn! Did we not promise Scarlet and Frederick that we'd come back for them?" The Eevee frowned, seeming hesitant then nodded. "You're right we can't leave them behind, we do need to rescue them, all right Denny I'm in." They paw-bumped each other.
Charlie shook his head. "Umm no! That's not gonna happen, You can't beat Darle your just kids!"
"Yeah, but we'll grow!" Shawn confirmed.
"No you two are crazy if no other Mon could beat him what makes you think you can?"
"Well, we won't right now, but like Shawn, we will grow old enough to evolve someday and when that happens we can begin searching for allies, maybe we'll come across more Mons that have it out for Darle," Denny replied.
But to his annoyance, the Jolteon still shook his head. "That's pretty big talk coming from two young Eevees such as yourselves, look I know it hurts right now but you'll get over it in time."
"No! I can't go the rest of my whole life never seeing my two siblings again! We promised them we'd come back for them!" Shawn argued.
"Yeah, and I'm not going the rest of my life trying to avoid Darle, something needs to be done!" Denny hissed. Charlie stared at them both for a long minute before sighing in defeat.
"Ok, fine if you're going to be so bold I can't stop you but don't think I'll let you do it without my help." Then he winked and Denny got excited, his tail wagged. "Great! We're really gonna do it! Thank you, Charlie!"
"We're gonna get our family back!" Shawn yelled excitedly.
"Now, now settle down, it's not gonna happen anytime soon, for now, let's just focus on finding a place to crash for the night."
Without another word, Denny and Shawn both padded after him. Denny couldn't help but imagine fighting Darle with the help of other Pokemon. 'I'll finally get to see Frederick and Scarlet again and that bastard Darle will get what's coming!'
Then they paused and emerged onto a beach. Denny and Shawn both stared at the ocean in awe. "Who... Denny, look at all that water, it's huge!"
"It's beautiful!" He chimed. Then they found a small cave hidden by shrubs and trees close to the sand. "Ah, ha! We can sleep there!" They padded back into the woodland and when inside once they got to it.
Denny paused at the cave entrance feeling his heart sink. "It seems big and empty.."
"That's because you're used to sleeping in a crowded den with your family."
Charlie was standing behind him. The Jolteon was right, Denny was missing his family right now.
He padded over to lay down beside Shawn who started whimpering. "Denny I don't know if I can do this. I miss Mom!" He sobbed.
Denny hugged him. "I miss her too, Shawn, but look at the bright side at least we have each other."
"But... I wish Scarlet and Frederick could be here, it's not fair!"
"I know, but we will see them again. It's not goodbye forever."
"But I can't stop worrying about them! What if they get hurt?" Now Denny was getting annoyed.
"Darle's not going to hurt them because they're Shineis."
"Go to sleep!" Charlie snapped.
Shawn buried his face in his paws.
And Denny rested his head on his paws and closed his eyes.

Denny had a dream he was back home in the shiny forest then what caught his eye was when he saw a Leafeon sitting by their old den.
"Mom!" He ran over to her and hugged her sobbing.
"Mom! I miss you so much!"
She hugged him back then Denny froze as he looked at her, her fur seemed to be glowing and he realized how real this dream felt.
"Mom, is it really you?" He asked.
She nodded then looked sadly at him.
Which confused him.
"Mom, what's wrong?"
"Oh, Denny I will always love you no matter what decisions you make but I came here because I wanted to tell you, please never lose sight of what's important."
As Denny sat in a daze of confusion she vanished.

Denny woke up back in bed feeling puzzled.
'Don't lose sight of what's important?... What does she mean?'
He rolled over to lay on his back.
Deciding to leave that thought for now he closed his eyes and fell back asleep.
