GIA POV

I wanted to surprise Delano for his birthday. Ryan and I was out and about getting supplies and decorations so we can jazz up the backyard. "Mommy... Daddy is going to be so happy".

"Yes he will he's not expecting it" I smiled. Kairo was in his car seat as we rode around to pick up a few things. "Isn't there going to be cake too?" He asked.

"Of course silly! What's a birthday without cake?!" I said. When we got to the grocery store to pick up some meats for the grill later. Ryan was inside the cart and so was kairo. I ask myself how in the world do I manage with two kids.

"Ryan grab that plastic for mommy, please?" I asked. He stretched out the cart and tore off a piece of plastic. He handed it to me so I could put some vegetables in it. As we moved along the aisle I heard someone clear their throat. Not paying it any mind I kept walking. "Ooo can we get that cereal?" Ryan asked. Looking up at the top shelf... this is when being short was annoying.

Someone must've heard my thoughts cause a arm stretched for it and handed it to me "here you go". Realizing it was Noah I gasped. Dropping the box of cereal on the floor. He picked it up and put it in my cart. "Hey Ryan!" He said. Ryan pretended not to notice he was there. "I see he's not in the mood to be friendly. Or did his dad tell him not to speak to me?".

"Noah Listen... I think it'll be best if we don't speak to each other, okay?" I said trying to push the cart so I can get the hell away from him. "Gia? Wait?" He said running after me. "Look I'm sorry for what my sister did. She told me she told Delano about the plan. And I didn't know when I involved myself that I would like you more than I needed to".

Nodding "that's it?". I was really trying to not show any emotion. If I show how cold I can be maybe he might leave me alone. "Yeah that's it. Is that the baby?" He pointed inside the cart. "Yeah that's him but we really need to go. So yeah..." I put the pep in my step and was out.

Grabbing the rest of the stuff and checking out. I made sure to look around so that Noah wasn't following me. You never know. White people are crazy!. Taking Ryan out the cart "get inside and buckle yourself up". He did what I asked him to. Taking kairo out and placing him in the car as well.

On the way back home my mind was going back to Noah. Damn, Delano was right hate to admit it. But at the same time I didn't want to even think about Noah. It's all about surprising Delano for his birthday.

"Mommy I think I found the tape!"Ryan yelled running to me. "Thank you!. Now make sure you look out for daddy" he nodded and ran back inside to the window. I had kairo in the thing you wear across your chest so he's swaddled.

When I finished decorating I was happy. I did an excellent job. The cake was in the fridge as well. "Mommy Daddy is here!" He came running. "Okay good so hide okay". He ran behind the table. I hid out of the way. After a few hellos he came to peek in the backyard. I switched on the light and jumped out "surprise!" Ryan came out and yelled "surprise!". Delano jumped back with a smile "you guys!".

He came and hugged me "thank you for this". I smiled "I'm happy you like it". Ryan jumped on Delano and hugged him "happy birthday daddy!".

"Thanks bud" Delano looked around and saw the hard work in these decorations "it makes the backyard look nice".

"That was intention. How does it feel to be old now?!" I teased.

"Old? Me? Never! I feel as young as I did when we first knew about Ryan" he said.

"Yeah okay... if you say so old man" I joked. He got the meats and started prepping them before putting them on the grill. I sat there feeling kairo and just watching his interactions with Ryan who was helping him. Delano is a very good dad no question about that. "Mommy look I put this one on all by myself!". I smiled "I saw you big boy".

Bringing the cake out Delano was even more surprised. We sang and ate cake. Ryan was a little tired of everything today so he went to bed early. Leaving Delano and I outside. "Thank you so much for today" he smiled.

"You deserve it and it's your day" I said. He put his hand on mine "this has to be the best birthday I've ever had".

"I call you bluff. But I'll take that compliment" I joked. "But since we are starting on a clean slate and we are communicating more now. I have to tell you something". He nodded "okay?".

"Well I saw —" a phone call interrupted what I was going to say. Delano noticed the person calling "business I'll be right back... and you can finish what you were saying" he got up and went inside. Sighing because I wanted to tell him about Noah.

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS WEIRD WHEN THESE TWO ARE NICE TO EACH OTHER?!.
