GIA POV
As I was getting dressed for this dinner I got a text from my father to come down to a certain address to talk things out with my mom. I was hesitant but maybe she wanted to make things right. Maybe?.
"Delano?" I yelled. He ran inside looking around "what's up? You okay? Your water break?".
"No! Umm... my dad wants me to meet him to talk. So can we postpone this dinner for another night?" I asked.
He nodded "yeah no problem. You need a ride there?".
"Umm yeah cause I'm not going to drive. If you don't mind". Taking off my dress I put on a tee shirt and shorts. Cause this Arizona heat don't play. Literally we have had a heat wave for four days now.
After I put my hair up I motioned Delano that I'm good to go. He walked me out and opened the car door for me. "Are you sure you want to do this?".
I nodded "yeah I'm sure". He shrugged and started to drive. Every now and then he would glance at me.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm just worried this wouldn't be the best idea for you. I've seen how your mom is. And well I just don't want you coming home crying".
"I'll be fine. And plus, my dad is there he's usually the peacemaker" I said.
"Do you want me to stay while your doing whatever or do you want me to leave?" He asked.
"It may take a while so might as well leave" I said.
Once we pulled up the place did look sketchy. Why in the hell would he want me to meet them here?. Delano looked at me "you sure?".
I nodded "yeah I'll be fine. Thanks for the ride" Getting out I made my way up to where they were. This is weird even for them. Opening the door I see it's a studio. Slowly walking inside I see my dad and mom and brother taking photos. What the hell is this?.
Making my presence known my dad yelled at the photographer to stop. "Gigi! I'm so happy you came". I raised my brow "what is going on?".
"Your mother wanted to take a family portrait so here we are" my dad said. My brother was smiling from ear to ear. "Interesting?".
"Step our the way Gia let this man take our picture" my mom fanned me to move to the other side. The photographer asked "Wait? If she's your daughter shouldn't she be in the picture too?".
"She'll manage just take the picture!" My mom yelled. I laughed to myself. Not because it was funny but because this is what I'm talking about.
"So you called me up here to watch you guys take a family photo that I'm not apart of. I cancelled a special dinner because I thought you guys wanted to actually talk to me. And no, you are taking a family portrait without me!".
"Gia relax, you don't live in the home anymore" my brother said.
"Dude you're like 15, don't you think it's a little weird to be taking a family portrait with your parents?" I asked.
"Don't you dare talk to him like that!" My mom said.
"This is ridiculous and so are y'all" I said. Walking away or trying to walk away.
"Gigi?! Please okay I didn't know she had this planned for you to see. I thought she wanted to talk to you. Or that's the way she made it seem" my dad said.
"That woman you married is a vile mean petty unemotional sociopath who only cares about someone when she can manipulate them. She did it to me for years. I dealt with verbal and emotional abuse for years from that woman. And no one came to my rescue!. But I was the one who was giving trouble and causing problems!. That's why I moved out at sixteen. I couldn't deal with it anymore. Then to do this and rub it in my face that I'm not apart of this family. That's low". My dad looked like he wanted to say something but he didn't know what. I walked out trying my best to not cry infront of them. I wouldn't give that woman the satisfaction of my tears ever again.
Once I was outside I felt the panic attack starting. Knowing I had to remain calm before it got worse. Closing my eyes I just focused on something so it would go away faster. About five minutes later I felt a little better. I texted Delano to pick me up.
//
Delano finally showed up "so how was it?" He asked. I shook my head trying to find my words. "Umm nothing will ever change".
He stared at me "meaning?".
"Meaning? I'll never be good enough to be apart of that family and my mom made sure that I understand that".
"I'm sorry Gia!. I knew you coming here wasn't a good idea" he started rubbing my thigh gently.
Rolling down the window I needed air. All of this going on I felt like the walls were closing in on me once again.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
I nodded "I just had a slight panic attack before you came".
He didn't say anything he just stared at me I guess to make sure I was okay.
"You asked me when did I start getting panic attacks?. Well it started when I was 11. Anytime I had to go home from school or anywhere it would come on. My mind knew what I was in for. Going home meant my mom would just call me names, make me feel worthless. But would treat my brother like a king".
Again he didn't speak.
I felt the tears coming up. Trying my best to not cry. But I couldn't help it. Delano leaned over and hugged me. Crying in his chest. I think what just happened just hurt. "You'll be okay. I think from now on you shouldn't really talk or see your family".
I nodded.
"Listen how about we go get something to eat doesn't matter where and we forget about what happened?" He smiled.
"Can I ask you a question?". He nodded "sure".
"Why me?. You could be happy with anyone else but you picked me, why?".
"Because behind that mask you wear... I see someone whom I always liked. Especially when you shed the mask and be you. That person there is the person I love. You need her to come out more often. Take the mask off".
I blushed.
"Now lets go eat cause I'm hungry and I know you're hungry!" He said putting the car in drive.
