Jenny's POV

I set watching my kids play on the beach my oldest Charlie and my middle child Lizzy were making a sand castle. My youngest now two months old was at my breast. I had only moved to California about a month ago. It's September only a couple days til my 28th birthday and I'm a widow with three children to raise on my own. I'd tried dating but it hadn't worked out. I had just ended up pregnant. But I had no regrets about my baby Mary. I stroked her little baby cheek and smiled.
A group of children come running up the beach giggling followed by a man I assume is their dad. As kids do they introduce themselves to each other.
"Hey what's your Momma doing?" I hear the older boy ask. My Son gives him a funny look and then it dawns on him.
"Oh she's feeding my sister." He states. And then begins educating the older boy about breast feeding making me laugh.
I glance up to see their father looking at me intently.
"Nikki" is all I can seem to say.
"Jenny" he smiles. "I can't believe it's you, wow." He sits near me just looking me over.
"It's good to see you." I grin at him.
"Where's your husband?" He glances around. "I like to meet the lucky man" he smirks. I look at my baby she is such a comfort.
"He died two years ago."
"I'm so sorry Jenny." He squeezes my hand. "Where's her dad? He gently touches my baby's hand.
"He was a mistake" I sigh "He wasn't good for my kids."
"Oh, to bad it's hard not having a dad." He turns to watch his kids play.
"What's your kid's names? I ask.
"The oldest is Gunner, Ryan, Storm, the youngest is Decker he motions to each one in turn." I smile at him I could tell by his expressions how much he loves them. "And I have another on the way."
"My oldest is Charlie, my daughter Lizzy, and this little one is Mary." We sit and watch our kids play in silence for awhile. Mary had finished nursing and I held her to my shoulder to burp her.
"Can I hold her?" He asks and holds out his hands.
"Umm yes if you want to." I gently place her in his arms. I laugh as he makes faces at her. As we both coo and play with her she smiles.
"That's the first time I've seen her smile." I grin excitedly. Without thinking about it I rest my head against his shoulder, it felt so nice to be near him again.
"Jesus don't you two know what birth control is?" I snicker as I realize he's staring at the group of kids in front of us. I give him a wide eyed look.
"Nooo" I giggle as he takes off mumbling about over population and poor people having babies to be on welfare.
"I see you haven't lost your sarcastic sense of humor." He chuckles.
"Nope" I notice the baby seems fussy so I gently take ber back and rock her.
"Do you live in LA or is this just a vacation or something." He reaches over and brushes my hair behind my ear.
"I live in LA I found an apartment on 14th it's only a two bedroom but it's a start." I shrug.
"Cool I'd like to see you again."
"It would be fun for our kids to have a play date. They seem to have hit it off." I smile.
"That would be nice, but I meant just me and you alone." He whispers.
"I like to see you too. I don't know anyone really. It would be nice to have a friend." He laughs. "What's so funny." I look at him confused.
"Nothing Little one." He smirks. "I was just remembering why I found you so endearing." I blush. "Can I get your number so I can call you?"
"Oh yes of course" I reach for my notebook and pen with one hand and write my number. "Here" I hand it to him. "I better go my girls can't take to much sun without getting burned."
"Ok I'll call you." he stands and helps me to my feet.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome"
I call my kids They moan and groan about leaving but follow me to our car anyway.
As I put the baby in her carseat and make sure my kids are seatbelted in, realization hits me he hadn't forgotten about me. I smile as I get into my old Mercury to drive home.
