"Nerd, tama ba ako ng dinig? O baka naman masyado nang naaapektuhan ng virus ang utak mo?"

Algea worriedly stared at me. Hindi na rin namin alintana na nasa gitna kami ng kaguluhan. Nasa loob kami ngayon ng laboratoryo. A broken metal cage at the center while a few scientists buzzed around the injured ones. Naka-red alert pa rin ang buong ESO research compound at hindi tumigil ang pagkislap ng mga pulang ilaw ng security system.

'It looks like my beloved Science failed me again,' huminga ako nang malalim at bumaling kay Algea. I held my hands behind my back like Professor Lopez would whenever he's explaining things.

"Sadly, that's the truth," I adjusted my eyeglasses, "Ang resident microbiologist at ex-head scientist ng ESO na si Marishel Patricio ang lumikha sa halimaw na 'yon. She admitted it while I 'borrowed' Dr. Burnham's camouflage mask---"

"Teka nga, ginamit mo 'yong camouflage mask? You stole it from him?!"

I laughed nervously, "Correction, I 'borrowed' it. No big deal! I used it for the greater good! Err.. balik na tayo sa usapan." I cleared my throat and continued, "Inamin sa'kin ni Marishel ang nangyari noong gabing isinagawa ang Human Patchwork Experiment. Assistant siya noon ni Professor Samuel at inutusan niya ang dalaga para 'patayin' ang test subject..."

Napahinto ako sa pagkukwento nang mapansin kong hindi kumportable si Algea. Malamang naaalala niya ang nangyari noon sa kanya. Her own (crazy but brilliant) father killed her and made her into a zombie. Mula noon talaga, interesante na si Professor Samuel sa pagmamanipula ng buhay at kamatayan.

Algea sighed and nodded, "D-Don't mind me. Just continue..."

Tinitigan ko siya ng ilang sandali bago nagpatuloy, "Pero hindi pinatay ni Marishel ang test subject dahil kasintahan niya ito. She instructed him to fake his death. Pinagplanuhan nilang tumakas mula sa Project Beta noong gabing 'yon, pero hindi nagtagal at nalaman rin ni Professor Samuel ang panloloko nila."

"Let me guess, my evil father transformed into a horrible monster and blackmailed Marishel to kill her boyfriend?"

Mahina akong natawa sa suhestiyon niya. That would make an awesome story plot someday. "Close, but not quite.. Nagalit ang daddy mo at tinanggal sa ESO si Marishel. Inihinto na rin nila ang scholarship niya sa ECU kaya't naghirap ang pamilya Patricio. Naging kahihiyan si Marishel sa scientific community at doon na unti-unting namuo ang galit niya kay Professor Samuel."

Marami nang may galit noon si Professor Samuel. Nasa rurok na siya ng tagumpay, pero kapalit nito ang pagdami ng kanyang mga kaaway. He would usually get death threats and some bastards would even try to assassinate him. But of those, those idiots underestimated a genius...

Professor Samuel Castillo is madman, but Eastwood cannot deny that he's the most brilliant scientist that had ever walked this land.

Dumapo sa monitor ang mga mata ni Algea. Mukhang malalim pa rin ang iniisip niya, "He's a psycho. Mula noon, obsessed na siyang isipin na kaya niyang higitan ang Diyos. He believed that Science is the redemption of humanity, and that he's some kind of prophet or something.. kaya niya sinimulan ang mga experiments sa mga bangkay. It was his idea."

"And it was his idea that inspired Marishel. She wanted to prove to the scientific community that she's better than Professor Samuel. Sa desperasyon niyang iyon, nagawa niyang patayin ang kanyang boyfriend at ilunsad ang sarili niyang Human Patchwork Experiment." Inayos ko ang laboratory coat ko at kinuha ang cellphone ko sa bulsa.

Tulad ng inaasahan ni Marishel, naging matagumpay ang experiment niya.

The ambitious Marishel Patricio succeeded where Professor Samuel Castillo failed.
