Song of the Chapter: Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At the Disco
Anna's POV
Gerard had left yesterday and I hadn't really done anything. James has been staying over trying to get me up and do something but I was just laying in bed.
"A it's going to be ok, why don't we go for a swim?"
I shake my head.
"How about a walk? Just anything to get you out of the house for a bit."
I shrug.
"Come on." He pulls me out of bed. I pull my shoes on and walk downstairs.
"Brendon? Anna and I are going for a walk."
He comes to us and glances at me.
"Alright, have fun."
Gerard's POV
Ever since we left for tour, I couldn't help but think about Anna. I knew she wasn't coping with me going on tour but I knew she could get through it, she had an amazing best friend, an awesome boyfriend and Brendon and Sarah were supportive.
"Bro you ok?"
"Yeah Mikes, I'm good."
"Alright well we're going to get food, you coming?"
"Sure."
To Anna: Hey, are you ok?
From Anna: Yep I'm great, enjoy tour
James' POV
"You don't have to lie to him you know." I say, seeing her text.
"I'm not, I'm all good."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I feel better now I'm out of the house."
"That's good."
We get our coffee and walk to a nearby park. She starts humming a familiar tune.
"You ready for our performance tomorrow?"
"Not at all, I've never sung by myself in front of people who aren't my family or friends."
"But you've released those covers."
"It's not the same though. When I upload a recording, I've sung it alone or in front of dad, never in front of lots of people. I don't think I can do it."
"Yes you can, just imagine you're alone. Your voice is amazing."
"Thanks." She leans up against me and smiles. I rub her arm in a comforting way.
We sit there for a while until the sun starts sitting. We make our way back home, holding hands.
"Shouldn't you be getting home?"
"Nah it's fine, mom and dad are out." I kiss her head.
"James can I talk to you?" We look up to see Brendon. I nod and follow him out the room.
"Is she ok?"
"I'm not sure, she's stressed about our performance tomorrow, about Gerard leaving."
"I really appreciate you taking care of her."
"Of course, I really like her."
"She likes you too and I'm serious, she opens up to you."
———
It was 2 am and Anna had just fallen asleep after crying from anxiety about our performance. She was so beautiful and I hated seeing her so worked up. I run my hand through her hair and I see her sleeve was rolled up. I knew that she had struggled with self harm before and I knew she hadn't done it in a while but I didn't want anything to happen that could make her relapse. I finally drift off to sleep after an hour or two.
———
"James, James." I hear softly in my ear. "Wake up."
"Huh? Oh hi I'm up."
"Morning."
"Morning babe. You ready for today?"
"Not really." She sighs and lays back down.
"You'll be ok but if it gets too much, tell me ok?"
"Ok."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
"Good now lets get ready before your dad comes up here."
She goes into the bathroom and I hear her turn the shower on. I get dressed and go downstairs to make us some coffee.
"Good morning James."
"Oh good morning Brendon."
I make some coffee and hand Brendon a cup.
"Thanks. You're a good kid, thanks for everything."
"Of course."
Anna comes downstairs and I hand her a cup too. We drink our coffee and Brendon gives us a lift to school.
