Song of the Chapter: Don't Try by Gerard Way

Anna's POV

I woke up the next day still wondering what happened between dad and Zack. I go downstairs to find James sitting on the couch drinking tea. I sit down next to him and he places an arm over me.
"Morning."
"Morning. How you going?"
"Alright. Still worried about dad." I had told James what I knew last night.
"I'm sure it's fine."
"Yeah."

The doorbell rings so I jump up and answer it. When I open the door I see a face I had only seen once.
"Where is he?"
"Good morning. How may I help?" I say politely.
"Where is he?"
"Who?"
"Don't play dumb with me kid. Where's my son."
"James?"
"Yes James you idiot."
"Do not call my girlfriend an idiot." James says sternly behind me.
"Well first time you've ever told us about her. Come on."
"I'm not going anywhere with you."
"You are my son, you will do as I tell you. Get your ass in the car."
"No."
"Don't say no to your mother." James' father says sternly.
"I'm not going anywhere with you."
"You can't possibly be happy here with her." His mother spits in my face.
"I am much more happy with her that with you. Don't disrespect her again." James growls and pulls me in closer.

"Who's here?" I turn around and see dad. All the racket must of woken him up. He sees James' parents at the door and instantly asks them to leave.
"Not without our son." His mum grab my arm to remove me from his grip but she grabs a cut. I involuntarily yelp in pain.
"I barely touched you." She roll her eyes.
"Get out." Dad says sternly. "Get out before I call the police."
"Fine I don't want to be here anyway. James you better be home by dinner time."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"Oh yes you will be."

They leave thankfully and James wraps me in a hug.
"You ok?"
"Yeah are you? Your parents just rocked up."
"I'm ok. Brendon I'm sorry that happened."
"Don't be but Anna can I speak to you? Alone."
I nod and follow dad up to my room.

"Everything ok?"
"Roll up your sleeve."
Oh that's why
"Hmm? No I'm all good."
"Anna." He says sternly, "I saw the way you just yelped in pain." He hugs me tightly. "A, talk to me." He whispers and that just makes me start crying. I thought I would be able to hide it.
"I'm sorry."
"Talk to me A. Don't lock me out."
"I don't know dad."
"What?"
"I don't know. I just don't know dad. I'm not fine I keep thinking if I pretend I am, I will be. But nothing seems to get better."
"Anna please let us help you. Let us take you back to Seth."
"I don't want to dad."
"A, you aren't eating and you're hurting yourself."
"Please no I can't." I start crying again. Dad sighs and hugs me tightly.

We sit there hugging for a while.
"Can you show me?"
I shake my head in his chest. I didn't want him to see how bad my arm was cut up.
"If you're not going to talk to a therapist or me, talk to Pete or Gee or Tyler. Ok?"
"I'll try."
"Thank you." He kisses my forehead and we go back downstairs.

"Everything ok?" James asks. I nod and snuggle up close to him.
"Babe?"
"Hmm?"
"I'm going to go home." He looks up at dad who was there, "Thank you for having me but I need to get home."
"No you can't." I protest. I was scared for his safety.
"I'll be ok."
"James you don't have to you're welcome to stay." Dad tells him.
"Thank you but I don't want to but you guys in danger with my parents. I'll be ok trust me."
I hug him tightly.
"I'll text you ok?"
"Please be safe."

James leaves 20 minutes later and I just sit on the couch.

From Awsten: yo! You in LA??
To Awsten: Yeah
From Awsten: want to meet for coffee?

"Dad? Can I go for coffee with Awsten?"
"Yeah sure."

To Awsten: Yeah sure.
From Awsten: meet me at Starbucks in 10?
To Awsten: ok
