Song of the Chapter: Iris by Sleeping With Sirens

Anna's POV

It was the day of the court trial and I was an anxious mess. Thankfully I didn't have to talk about it, the police officers were going to speak on my behalf.

"A? Breathe it's ok."

I blink and look up at mum who had wrapped her arm around me. I hadn't even realise that I wasn't breathing.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't apologise, you haven't done anything."
"A? You ok to go?" I look up to see dad. I shrug and unwrap myself from around mum. Dad holds him arms out and I hug him.
"It's ok, we all know that they are going to be locked up."
"So why are we going?"
"For some legal reason."
"I really don't want to be in the same room as them again."
"I know you don't, but how about we do something fun afterwards?"
I shrug.
"It'll be ok, let's go and get this done with."

We climb in the car and drive in silence, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest and my leg wouldn't stop bouncing as we approached the court house. Mum, who was sitting next to me, tried to calm me down by placing her hand on my leg.
"Shh it's ok."
"I don't want to do this." I whisper and she nods.
"I know, I hate seeing you like this but I'll be there the entire day and this will soon be over I promise."
"Thank you." I whisper and lean up against her. I see dad looking at me through the rearview. He raises his eyebrows as if to ask 'are you ok?' I nod and look out the window.

When we get there, I was having a panic attack but it was a subtle one so I looked ok but inside, I was dying. Mum could tell and she wrapped me in a protective hug. She pats my hair and whispers that I'm ok and I'm safe.
"It's all ok darling. I love you, we all do. They won't be able to hurt you anymore."

After maybe 5 minutes, I had calmed down enough to walk into the court room. Dad wrapped his arm around my shoulder and I held onto his hand.
"Dad how long will this take?"
"Anywhere between an hour to 3."
"3 hours? Just to put someone I jail?" I ask and dad shrugs.
"Apparently."
"I can't sit here for 3 hours." I say. I would rather sit at home, alone than sit in the same room as them for 3 hours.
Dad goes to say something but the judge walks in and we all have to be silent.

Liam and my uncle walk in and I start having another panic attack.
"D-dad I-I c-can't do th-this." I whisper and he nods, seeing my distress. His hand raises and the judge calls on him, not impressed at all.
"Your honour, may Anna and I be excused from this room for a moment?"
"No one is to leave."
One of the jury members sees Anna and whispers to Officer Gray. He comes up to us.
"Everything ok?"
"I need to get Anna out of here." I hear dad say, I was now crying into dad's shoulder, remembering everything that happened.
"Anna? Would you like to leave?" The officer asks and I nod furiously. He places his hand on my shoulder and that scares me more. His hand is removed from my shoulder and I hear dads voice.
"Anna? Can you hear me?" I nod.
"Come on, let's get out of here." I lift my head and follow dad out. The door shuts behind us and I hug dad tightly.

"Shh, you're ok, you're safe."
"P-please l-let m-me l-leave I-I c-can't."
"I know, I know but I have to be here. Would you like me to call Pete to come get you?"
"Y-yes."
He pulls out his phone, still holding on to me.

"Hey Pete, you busy?"
"Can you come to the court house and get Anna?"
"No, not really, I'll explain when you get here."
"Thanks man."

"He'll be here in 5 minutes." I nod and put my head in his chest. He pats my hair to calm me down.
"Everything is ok you are safe I promise."

"Brendon? Anna?"
I feel dad lift his head up at the sound of Pete's voice.
"Hey Pete thank you for coming."
"Of course what happened?"
"I can't be in the Pete. All I can think about it what happened and what they did to me." I whisper.
"I was hoping you can take her home or something because I have to be here apparently." Dad asks.
"Of course I can. Come on A let's get you out of here." Pete says and I let go of dad. Dad and Officer Gray go back in and I follow Pete to his car. I was still crying, but not as much.
