Age 9
My classmates and I were rounded up in the training area located outside of the academy. Iruka Sensei had explained to us that we would be paired up with someone for some traditional shinobi sparring and we were all patiently waiting for our name to be called next.
Two kids named Choji and Shikamaru were called up and were standing at the center where there was a white circle around them.
I watched as Choji was hesitant to engage in a sparring match with his friend and I sighed as I turned my head to Hinata who stood right next to me.
"Who do you think you'll be up against?" I asked her and she pondered for a second.
"Well I-I'm not sure. I-I don't really w-want to go up against anyone."
Poor little Hinata.
"Let's see if you're as lucky as them then," I used my head to motion in front of me and saw Choji and Shikamaru making the unison sign.
"Come on Shikamaru! You're the laziest person I've ever met! And Choji, you've got no guts!" I heard a blonde haired girl named Ino yell out at the two.
Shikamaru shrugged his shoulders before he walked off with Choji back to where our classmates were at.
"Next up, Naruto Uzumaki!" Announced Iruka Sensei and Naruto cried out, "Yes!"
He stepped up and as he did, the murmurs began which I could clearly hear.
"Is he the one?"
"My parents said not to speak to him."
"He's the one guy I don't want to be paired up with."
'Is he...like me?' I noticed how Naruto would get treated and it was no different from me. They only led me to wonder if he had something inside him too.
I looked over at the three who said that and glared at them which they took notice of and flinched before stepping away.
"My parents also said not to talk to her."
"Yeah, she's trouble."
"I heard she almost went on a rampage," one of the girls with shoulder length black hair whispered and I gritted my teeth and clenched my fists.
'I'll show you a rampage.'
"And Sasuke Uchiha. Step forward," called out Iruka Sensei and that's when girls began to erupt in squeals and began to cheer him on. I silently watched as Sasuke made his way up with a blank expression on my face. All the girls were pretty much rooting for him while none were for Naruto. Well except for Hinata who didn't have the courage to loudly cheer him on.
Well I was gonna change that.
"Do your best, Naruto!" I loudly said which made all the girls' heads turn towards me. Not only them, but Naruto and Sasuke looked my way. Sasuke's eyes gazed into mine and I nodded my head at him as a way of supporting him too but he was indifferent about it and looked away while Naruto had a surprised expression on his face before he smiled and pumped a fist in the air.
"I'm not gonna lose. No way!"
Naruto was bouncing on his feet ready to spar him, but Iruka Sensei began to explain to him the etiquette about hand to hand combat and that they must do the Spar Sign before they begin.
Both of them did as told and a few seconds of silence had gone by as Iruka Sensei glanced at the two before saying, "Start!"
The two ran at one another and in a second, Sasuke had pinned Naruto down to the ground. Everyone was amazed by Sasuke's speed and I was quite surprised at how quickly it ended.
