Heading back inside the hideout, we thought it would be wise to split up and cover more ground. Captain Yamato and Sakura were paired up together, while Naruto and Sai were paired up. And then there was one which resulted in you going solo.
Captain Yamato and Sakura headed off towards the left while you followed Naruto and Sai towards the right. There was eventually another two way route that you three encountered and asked them, "which way do guys want?"
"I guess we'll just take left," responded Naruto. Nodding your head, you ran off toward the right and opened every door you encountered only to be met with an empty room. The only sound that echoed off the walls was the steady pounding of your ninja sandals making contact with the floor and your low panting breath as you tried pumping your legs even faster.
Searching for Sasuke felt like an eternity and with the amount of endless doors, you felt like it was pointless if you reached a dead end. As you slammed opened a door, an explosion was heard to the far left.
'All this running around and yet he was over there.' A sigh escaped your lips as you took off running again. It didn't take you very long until you saw the bright light that would lead you outside. Stepping outside, you halted right next to your teammates, hunched over with your hands on your knees. You noticed that you were all encircled in a medium sized crater.
It took you a few seconds to steady your uneven breathing and once you lifted your head up, you noticed that their eyes were focused above the crater at a certain someone. Your (e/c) eyes trailed over to that person, although the blinding light from the sun was in your eyes, you could still distinguish his appearance.
"Thought you'd never show up, (Y/n)," he said cooly, his onyx eyes meeting your (e/c) eyes. With your arrival he saw how much you had changed over the course of time.
"This team wouldn't be complete without me, but then again we're here for you instead," you said while raising your arm to block the sun from blinding your eyes.
"What team...I severed my bond with you all long ago. The only bond I have now is a bond of hatred between my brother and I. Having too many bonds in this world leads you astray. It weakens one's ambition and distracts you from what truly matters."
"If that's the case...then why didn't you kill me that day?! Weren't you gonna break our bond, Sasuke?!" Blurted out Naruto with a hint of pain evident in his voice.
"Without those bonds you wouldn't have even made it this far," you let out while slightly glaring at him. He stoically stared at all of you and scoffed at your comment.
"I don't need any of you or those so called bonds. I have no desire for their stupidity and weaknesses," he let out while eyeing his so called teammates. "But it's not that I couldn't kill you, I just couldn't stand the thought of obtaining power the way he did. You're only alive because of my passing whim."
Your teammates were pretty silent and stared at him with sadness swirling in their eyes. Naruto had his fists balled up and his teeth clenched, but as we stared up at Sasuke, he was gone in a second and reappeared in front of Naruto.
Everyone was astonished by his speed. His arm was slung around Naruto and his lips were in close proximity to Naruto's ear. Naruto didn't seem to flinch at his arrival but rather had an expressionless look on his face, while staring straightforward.
"Now that I think about it...wasn't it your dream to become Hokage. Rather than chasing me all this time, you should've have put that time to good use to train or something." He placed his hand on his sword of Kusanagi and slowly unsheathed it from its scabbard.
"How can I become hokage, when I can't even save one friend..." he said, his voice trailing off. With a swift motion Sasuke swung his blade to slice Naruto in half but before he got any closer to his spine, you and Sai intervened with a kunai and tantō in hand, trying to push the blade away. Using your strength, you both threw him off balance for a second, but jumped back before he could try slicing you in half.
