Have you ever made a plan that seems so refined?
Have you ever had a plan that you felt so confident that it'll all be successful?
Yet, ending up in failure? When we read the Bible, we will find many stories especially in the Old Testament, where people plan for themselves and without the guidance of the Lord. What happened to them? They ended up ashamed. They were lost.
One story is this: The story where the Israelites is about to go to the Promise land. God, through Moses, said that that should go. But they didn't listen and go in their way. This is what happened:
When Moses told these words to all the people of Israel, the people mourned greatly. And they rose early in the morning and went up to the heights of the hill country, saying, Here we are. We will go up to the place that the LORD has promised, for we have sinned.
But Moses said, Why now are you transgressing the command of the LORD, when that will not succeed? Do not go up, for the Lord is not among you, lest you be struck down before your enemies. For there the Amalekites and the Canaanites are facing you, and you shall fall by the sword. Because you have turned back from following the LORD, the LORD will not be with you.
But they presumed to go up to the heights of the hill country, although neither the ark of the covenant of the LORD nor Moses departed out of the camp.
Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and defeated them and pursued them, even to Hormah. -Numbers 14:39-45
These Israelites were warned ahead. They were told explicitly that what they were doing was a sin, because it is disobedience to God. They were also told what would happen and that God would not be with them. But they went anyway! They presumed to go up to the mountaintop.
In Proverbs 19:21 says "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand."
Sometimes, your plan maybe so perfect in your eyes. Your plan maybe so refined and seems successful in your thoughts. But if it not the will of God for you, it will not work.
So when you plan, allign your plan with the Lord's will, the One who knows and holds everything.
When you plan with God, it doesn't mean that your plan has the most portion and God has less. It doesn't mean that you will be the mastermind. No. When you plan with the Lord it means, you are putting your plans in God's perspectives.
Remember, you can do nothing without God. But through Him, you can do anything!
There was certain time in school when we had a project as a whole class and that project will also be a part of competition among all courses in our university. It's a documentary film, so we should had our director, writers, camera men, etc. In short, all of us should work.
But this is what happened. One of my classmate presented a plan to all of us. We had exchanging of suggestions and brainstorming. But in the end, it is her ideas that prevail. She bore all the works for she said that we don't need writers anymore because we will just have an interview. We don't had a well-laid plan and obviously, God is not with the plan.
Our teacher asked, what's our purpose in doing that documentary film? Almost all of them answered that they want to achieve the highest trophy as the price.
When I was asked, I just said, for the Glory of God and for the betterment of people who will be invloved in our documentary. I also suggested ways to make our documentary better, but majority of them were in favor of our classmate. So I went silent.
Deadline was approaching and my classmate was rushing. She's not yet finish editing. There are still many people that needed to be interviewed. And when my classmates watch a glympse of our film, they were disappointed.
Many of them approached me and asked me to take over the editing and apply my suggestions. To cut the story short, we presented the project but our teacher's suggestion was "it needs an improvement" and obviously, we didn't get the goal.
You see, when you plan to do something, do it for the Glory of God. This must be our greatest goal. Because even if you get the price or not, if you did it for God, you never lose!
It doesn't mean that when you bring God in your plans, you will always win. There were times that He will allow you to fail because it will shape you. It will teach you as well. And He has His will for you.
If Jesus is really the Lord of your life, then even in your plans or decision-making, HE SHOULD STILL BE OVER YOU.
It is not your will but His will be done! The one that will give Him the Glory!
Always remember to commit your plans to the Lord and you will succeed!
Shalom!
Glory to God alone! :)
