"A wise son hears his Father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. Whoever guards his mouth preserved his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. -Proverbs 13:1;3

You will know yourself as wise child if God if you are listening to His instructions through preaching, scriptures and convictions. Hearing is just hearing the Word; but LISTENING is hearing and applying the Word. It is when you have heard, when you have known, you will apply in your life right away.

God said in Jeremiah 7:13, "While you have been sinning, I have been trying to talk to you.

Even while you are sinning—GOD INSTRUCTS YOU. Actually, GOD CONSTANTLY INSTRUCTING YOU. Even before, during, and after you do a thing especially when He sees you doing a certain thing that isn't good for you. Remember, God will not instruct you to things that we destruct you. His instructions are always for your good.

But if you are NOT listening to His instructions and rebukes, He considers you as a SCOFFER.

What is a SCOFFER?
- someone with the expression of scorn, derision or contempt

Scorn is a feeling that someone is NOT WORTHY of any respect or approval. Ouch! Do you want to be unworthy of God's approval? God already made us worthy because of what His Son, Jesus, did on the cross. Don't let it be wasted.

The verse 1 shows that this 'instruction' that the Word is saying is for the 'words' we use to speak.

As a child of God, before you let a word go out of your mouth, God is speaking to you...
IS IT WORTH IT?
IS IT HELPFUL?
IS IT INSPIRING?
IS IT CONTRIBUTING?

IF NOT THEN DON'T EVER SAY IT!

You know that out of your mouth/tongue comes life or death. (Proverbs 18:21)

This main passage (Proverbs 13) says that if you know how to guard your mouth, you know how to preserve your life. The more your words brings death, the more that your life lessens.

One of the things that kills the life of your fire to God is your PERILOUS MOUTH. Perilous means full of danger.

Don't let your mouth harm your soul! Jesus died on the cross to save your soul from eternal danger, don't let His sacrifice be useless just because of your uncontrolled tongue. Another, don't let your tongue be used for evil. If you use your tongue to praise God, then, please. Do try your best not to be used it for things that doesn't glorify God.

What are those words that doesn't glorify God?
1. Curse words
2. Gossips about your brothers/sisters
3. Negative words
These are just some.

Guard your tongue and use it wisely.
Listen to the voice of God's conviction.
Be sensitive with the voice of the Holy Spirit.

We may not be perfect and we will never be, but we can become better for the glory of God.

Shalom!
Glory be all to God! :)
