"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;" -Isaiah 61:1-2

The moment we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, that's the moment we received the Holy Spirit. Jesus says in John 3:5, "...unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."  To put it simply, when we accept Jesus Christ, God immediately seals us with His Spirit. (2 Corinthians 1:22).

And through His Holy Spirit, we become anointed. What is anointing by the way?

Anointing
- is being smeared or rubbed with oil as part of a religious ceremony to make someone or something sacred.
- meant to empower people to accomplish God's work and for protection.

Anoiting is meant to:

set apart "You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them that they may serve me as priests."
(Exodus 30:30)

The term 'consecrate' means to set someone apart.

The setting apart of Aaron to be anointed is the same with our setting apart.. Deuteronomy 14:2 says, You have been set apart as holy to the LORD your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.

to empower "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." -Joshua 1:9

to protect "He allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, saying, 'Touch not my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!'" - 1 Chronicles 16:21-22

In the new testament, we, the followers of Christ, was compared to the sheep and He is our Shepherd. Did you know why Shepherds are pouring oil into their sheeps? So to prevent parasites. The oil ran into the crevices around the sheep's ears, eyes, and nose to repel flies, fleas, and other parasites that could make it sick and even die. The anointing of God protects us from the evilness that tries to run our heads and protect us from dying.

Who is the Anointed One?

"how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him." -Acts 10:38

That's the reason why we need to accept Jesus so God could anoint us with His Spirit through Jesus, His Anointed One.

Always remember that the anointing you received from God is NOT FOR YOU TO FEEL GOOD but FOR GOD TO USE YOU FOR HIS GLORY TO OTHER PEOPLE.

PURPOSE OF ANOINTING:

BRING GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR
> Great commission (Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

• BIND THE BROKEN-HEARTED
> healing of the hearts "Come, let us return to the Lord. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us." -Hosea 6:1

• PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES
> setting captives free "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing." – Isaiah 10:27

• OPENING OF THE PRISON TO THE BOUND
> breaking of chains "..And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing." -Isaiah 10:27

• PROCLAIM THE YEAR OF THE LORD'S FAVOUR
> announcing of God's Lordship over all "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." -Philippians 2:9-11

• PROCLAIM HIS VENGEANCE
> announcing His fairness and holiness "It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them." -Deuteronomy 32:35

• COMFORT ALL WHO MOURN
> comforting the mourning people "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." -Matthew 5:4

But did you know?
Before yout anointing could ever benefit people, you'll be going to be crushed FIRST!

It is you who will first experienced being poor, broken-hearted, captivated, bounded in chains, unfavoredness, vengeance/rebuke of God and mourning.

Because you can't be able to help people if you, yourself, didn't experienced exactly the same situation. Remember: You cannot give what you didn't know and you cannot take people in a place you've never been.

Jesus chose to experienced being in the form of man—poor, broken-hearted, captive, bound, unfavored, vengeance of God (when He took the sins of the world on the cross, He became God's enemy for a while) and mourns, so He could share with us.

Lastly, in John 12:3, Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Just as how the jar was broken, so you must be in order for the anointing to fill other people.

Where there is breaking, there's always an anointing!

Shalom!
Glory be all to God! :)
