Even Peter experienced to be rebuked by Jesus. It only shows that truly Jesus didn't come to tolerate people with their sins but He came to correct them, rebuke them and lead them to righteousness.
Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Satan, get way from me! You're in my way because you think like everyone else and not like God." -Matthew 16:23
When Jesus rebukes us through His words, we should take this positively. For the Father corrects everyone He loves. If He don't correct our wrong doings, then He don't love us. But, no. He loves us so much that He will always want what's good for us even if it will hurt us.
The pain is bearable and worthy for this is how will the purpose of God be met.
On the other hand, God also revealed in this passage what He said in Romans 12:2 that we should not conform to the standards of the world and we must change our minds.
Our minds should not be like the unbelievers or those people who doesn't know and doesn't have relationship with God. But we must be thinking about righteousness.
Our minds should be aligned in God's thinking through His words.
What should you do?
I. Accept God's correction to you.Proverbs 10:17 People who accept correction are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore it will lead others astray.
II. Align your thinking in what the Bible says.
The Bible is the mind and heart of God. If you read it, you will be able to know whay God is thinking and what is in His heart. And by that, you will be able to apply it in your life. Anything that opposed God's Words is falsity. The Word of God is the truth and righteous.
You see, Peter take the rebuke of Jesus to him positively. We could see how Peter was used mightily and effectively by God which was stated in the next books of the New Testament after John. He was also the one who wrote 1 Peter and 2 Peter.
Who could ever imagine that the Peter here in this verse who's thinking like an unbeliever, could be able to say "As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. - 1 Peter 1:13-16
God's rebuke to us will change us and our way of thinking along with our attitude if we just take it in a positive way. Many Christians turn their backs right away after being hurt by rebuke, because they were not open for it. They don't take it for good.
Always remember that Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. -Job 5:17
Accept correction and be blessed!
Shalom!
Glory to God alone! :)
