"Mom your coming to my game tonight right?"
My daughter asked.
"Yeah, I wouldn't miss it for the world." I said smiling sweetly. My daughter plays softball and she's really good at it too.
"Ok mom." I went into my room to quickly change out of my scrubs.
I heard the doorbell ring.
"Mom do you want me to get the door?"
"No it's alright I'll get it."
I walked out and opened the door, and I was shocked to see who was there.
"Hey Connor." I said with my smile dropping.
"Hey Denver."
Connor and I have been dating for almost a year and he doesn't know I have a daughter yet alone met her.
"What's wrong you look like you saw a ghost?"
"Oh it's nothing." I said lying.
"Mom where's my bat?" My daughter yelled from her room.
Connor gave me a look of confusion.
"Mom?" he asked.
"Alright well I guess it's time I explain everything."
"Yeah."
"I have a daughter. She's 14."
"What?"
"When I was 21, I was in a relationship with this guy, his name was Nicholas. He was abusive and he was an asshole. I got pregnant and he took off."
"I'm sorry."
"It's ok. It's always been just me and her. She never met her dad and I would love to keep that way. She watched my ex-husband come into her life and then leave. She's my best friend. She is always there and she's the best. She's a great softball player too. So now is your chance to go, because if you want to be in my life she's in it too and she's a big part of it, so I understand if you want to leave."
He grabbed my shoulders
"Why would I want to leave. I love you and if it means that your daughter is apart of my life then so be it, and when me and you get married I will love her as my daughter."
"When we get married?"
"Yes! I told you I was gonna marry you some day. I meant it." I smiled up at him. He bent his head down to kiss me.
"Mom have you seen my bat?" My daughter yelled again.
"Do you want to meet her?"
"I would love too."
I led him into the kitchen.
"Mom!" My daughter came running out into the kitchen but stopped when she saw the guy I was with.
"Mom who's this?"
"This is Connor."
"Oh you mean the guy you always talk about?"
He looked at me and laughed.
"You talk about me?"
"She's a teenager she likes to gossip."
She laughed.
"Connor I want you to meet my daughter Erika."
"Nice to meet you."
She said holding out her hand.
"Nice to meet you too." He shook her hand.
"Mom can you help me find my bat?"
"It's downstairs in the laundry room. I put it down there cause I washed your uniform and the bat was in the bag."
"Ok thanks mom."
"Of course."
She walked downstairs.
"She looks just like you."
"I get that a lot." I smiled.
"Hey I'm sorry I know we were supposed to go out tonight but I totally forgot that she had a game."
"It's ok."
I thought for a second.
"Do you want to come to her game?"
"I would love too."
"Come on Erika! Your gonna be late."
She came running out.
"You don't care if Connor comes right?"
"No."
"Alright then let's go."

"Go kick some ass." I high fived her and then Connor and I found a seat on the bleachers.
The game lasted about 3 hours and Erikas team won.
I was now saying goodbye to Connor.
"I loved meeting her."
"I'm glad. Do you want to come over for dinner tomorrow?"
"Sure."
"Ok I will see you at work. Love you."
"Love you."
He gave me a kiss on the cheek and left. Once he left I went over to my daughters room.
"Hey Er."
"Hey mom."
"So do you like Connor?"
"Yeah he's really nice and I could tell he loves you."
"That's amazing."
"Mom is he gonna do the same thing John did? John asked you to marry him and then 3 months later he filed for divorce and left."
"No honey. John and I rushed things. Connor he's here for the long run."
"Good. Do you think you and him are gonna get married?"
"Some day."
"What about kids?" She asked with a hopeful smile on her face. She's always wanted little siblings.
"Maybe."
"Yay! Thank you for introducing me to him mom."
"Your welcome. Now get some sleep you have school in the morning."
"Ok mom. Goodnight I love you."
"I love you too."
