[Flashback Part 3]

After the baby was born, Ging planned to send Akemi's body back to Whale Island first because he couldn't see his wife dead together with him. It just didn't feel real to him that Akemi really died.

Ging stood at the docks seeing the large ship sailing slowly away with her corpse inside. Deep inside him, he wanted to say or wave goodbye to her but he couldn't it. It would mean he was finally leaving and forgetting his wife.

The baby moved a bit in his hold then Ging looked down in alarm. Then he sighed in relief when he saw the peaceful expression on his baby boy, his son called Gon.

Take care of him, Anata... Ging thought he heard someone whispered to him. He was sure Akemi will haunt him for the rest of his life.

After the ship was out of his sight like an ant, he went back to his house and started packing for his way to Whale Island the next day.

In Whale Island, a few hours later, Mito and her mother waited at the shore for any upcoming ships that are coming to the docks.

"I wonder how their baby would look like by now!" squealed the old woman beside her daughter, Mito who just can't wait to see her sister again. Her palms sweated and her face was expressed with nervousness.

"Yeah, me too." she mumbled shakingly, holding her mother beside her.

Twenty long minutes have passed by when the huge ship have arrived in their little town. It let out black smoke from its chimney at the top of it. The passengers have gotten their luggage when they got to the ground, hugging their relatives.

But the passengers decreased and no Akemi has walked down to greet them. The two women didn't expect a long coffin coming out of the ship with four men carrying it on their lean shoulders.

"Are you Mito, sister of Akemi Freeces?" one man asked her awkwardly.

She felt a lump on her throat, "Ye..Yes. Wh..What is this coffin for? Did someone die?" Mito put her hand on her chest as if attempting to stop her heart from beating so fast.

The four men put down the white-and-gold coffin on the ground. Another man went to open it for the two women.

The cover of the coffin creaked as it opened, the pair of eyes grew large as they saw what's inside of it.

The dead body of Akemi was there. She was dressed in her favorite floral dress. It was obvious she was injected with something to avoid her body's decay. Because of it, her skin looked pale white like she bathed in a tub of milk for hours.

Mito dropped on her knees, tears spilling out of her eyes. "No...No...No..." Her mother was shocked too, staring at her daughter's corpse inside the coffin.

The four men left them alone with sad expressions on their faces.

"Wha..What happened to her? Why is she dead?" Mito's mother removed the transparent glass and touched Akemi's face. "My dear child...died..." She held her hand but felt something under it. It was a white piece of paper. She unfolded it and called Mito to read it with her.

Dear Mito,

I'm not really good with letters but this is the only way I could think of to tell you what happened.

I just want to say sorry for letting her die so early for her age, 24. She tried her best to make her baby live. Do you want to know his name? I'll tell you when I arrive there tomorrow.

I'm sure you're angry at me for not taking care of her health. I always knew she was sick but she hesitated that she will still go to Yorknew City. I planned to tell her to stop working so hard and just rest but she wouldn't. She loves her child too much.

But guess what, I'm lucky to have her as my wife. She's the loveliest, kindest woman I have ever met my whole life. Akemi never gave up on showering me with her love every day even though she knew I wasn't expressive enough.

Deep in my heart, I think it was all my fault. I could have changed myself for her or something. However, I couldn't bring myself to bring it. It really wasn't my style to be lovey-dovey with her. That's one of my regrets.

All I know is that she's in a better place where she won't be sad now. I also know that she'll be protecting Gon from afar. I could feel it.

Last thing, I loved her. I really did.

                                                         Sincerely yours,
                                                         Ging Freeces

Mito's hands shook while holding the paper drenched in tears, "Akemi died while giving birth to their child?"

Her mother laid a hand on her shoulder, "It seems like it..."

"I..I don't believe it...It just can't..." She cried out, hugging her mom.

"Mito, it's not Ging's fault your sister died. As written on the letter, she did her best."

"No, she wouldn't have died if Ging was there to help her! I had the feeling he won't be a good husband or either a father!" shouted Mito angrily. "I knew it...I knew it! Ging killed Akemi! Haven't you noticed my sister's attitude before she left?! SHE SAID GING WAS TOO BUSY TO TAKE CARE OF HER!!"

"Mito! Don't jump into conclusions! What if what you're saying is not true at all?"

She turned to look at the aged woman, "Then we just have to see for ourselves tomorrow when we see him at my sister's funeral..."

All the people who knew Akemi was dead were wearing black clothing and were sitting outside their house expressing their condolences.

Few minutes later, it suddenly rained so the crowd went back to their homes in a hurry, leaving Mito and her mother alone with so much grief.

As they cried endlessly in their incomplete home, soft taps sounded closer. Mito opened her eyes and heard that familiar sound of footsteps. Ging was finally here.

The impatient sister stormed towards the door and opened it, walking outside their house. "You murderer....!"

Only the sound of rain was keeping them busy but they both stood frozen on their spot. Ging was wet from the rain and so was Mito. Despite the heavy rainfall, Ging could notice dark circles under her red puffy eyes.

"What are you doing in my sister's funeral, killer..." Mito started the conversation.

"I'm not here to argue with you, Mito." said Ging who was covering the baby from the rain with a raincoat.

"Don't you dare give that baby to me. That's not a part of my family, you murderer!" Mito warned him not to go closer.

Because he wasn't permitted to go closer, Ging just placed the baby on the ground with a rain coat around it to cover from the rain. "Take care of Gon...I'm not suitable to be the father of this child. I don't deserve him at all." He disappeared in a blink of an eye.

When he was gone, Mito couldn't help looking at the little child. It was too cute to be true that she even laughed at the sight of it. Mito changed her mindset and just thought that this was the last memory of her sister, Akemi. She'll surely raise him nothing like his father who was a coward and an idiot.

She carried it inside and closed the door, shutting all the sad memories in her head forever...

A/N: Finally, this flashback has ended! *wipes sweat*

I haven't posted a chapter for 2 days! And have you read my new story, Tomodachi? What are your thoughts about it? :D

Question: If Mito didn't raise Gon, what would have happened to Gon now? Describe his life if he hadn't been in Mito's care in your comments.

Minna daisuki! ❤
