'Tell me one thing you ever wish for. I mean one thing in particular that if you are granted, you'll forever be happy' He asked as he turned the mackerel on the coal pot.
It was one of the raining days and Obi's lecture couldn't hold due to the heavy storm. Joyce texted her she wasn't coming home, so she changed her direction to Paul's place.
She watched the fishes sizzle, a cup of tea in her hand. Her mind traveling here and there, wandering if she should answer.
"Ifemi." Harrison called her out in that low sexy voice of his. She closed one eyes and opened the other to look at him. Why so fine?
'I don't want to answer.' she shrugged.
'I can make you.' he chuckled softly. The toaster made a sound that the bread was done.
'You don't know, your wish could come true.'
She drank her tea and went over to the toaster that was placed at the base of his bed. The room was small but he got big arms for enough filling.
'I wish my father is alive.... I wish it never happened.'
He paused what he was doing, confuse at her words.
'I know I hate talking about my parents, my family in general. I have a sister, Christiana and I once had the best family in the world." She smiled bitterly. She loaded another pair of bread into the toaster. 'He loved me....but I simply repaid him with death.'
He nodded at her, encouraging her. 'go on....'
'You are not scared I repaid someone with death?'
'who am I to agree with something like that? Obi my love, I'm only interested in you, not your past.'
She placed her tea cup on the table. His look wasn't judging her, he was carefree about the situation. 'I was Daddy's little girl and everyone knew that... My mom once fought him over it, told him he was giving me her time. When Christiana was born, there was no difference. We were attached like 5 and 6. I can't really say what went wrong but my Dad and Mom were fond of fighting even over slight mistakes, they would raise their voices at each other. Gradually, he started coming home late from work but he never slept out. My mother complained a lot, my sister grew up in their confusion. It went on like that till one day I caught my mom with another man in our house'
'She cheated'
She nodded grimly. 'It was painful. She tried to make me see the reasons for her to do that. She told me not to let her husband know but I was Daddy little girl. It repeated itself. She started telling me if I tell, she would make my father hate me, she punished me for silly things and make me do tedious work. My Dad found out soon, he was angry that I knew about it. He didn't confront her, he left the house and started sleeping outside. My mother invited family members to beg him, he agreed to come back home. Two weeks later, he sent me to his room while he played outside with one of his friends and Mom was washing some clothes at the tap side. He sent me to fetch his phone from Christiana who was busy playing game with it. from no where I saw fire, it was a deadly sight. It was smoke everywhere. We were trapped and I thought we were going to die. He managed to save us, but he himself didn't make it out'
