Obi's POV.
"I was attending a vice chancellor's cocktail party at the SUG's chamber with my friend Joyce when I bumped into a hard chest at the entrance. Girl, the place was filled up with goodybag men and I was contemplating that even professors and chancellors or whatever visitors that were invited to the place got money smelling over them. Well I got an invitation since my friend, Bayo, that was graduating is the son of the state commissioner for education. Joyce is the type of girl that doesn't allow things to slide free especially when it is wrong. So when we turned around to see who collided with me.
When Joyce opened her mouth to give him a lecture on how to watch where he was going, well...she is fat, so no wonder if he couldn't go through and had to bump into me. I grabbed her hand to tug it, hoping that would stop her. If we create a scene, she could get her father to rescue us but we must not embarrass ourselves first.
When I looked up, a pair of thick brows lifted above great eyes at us like he was born to tease...I guess he deliberately bumped into us to tease us. I was looking into good brown eyes and thick curly lashes. He was much taller than me, his shoulders were molded perfectly into the suit he wore which looked simple and not very fashioned. I was looking at a gorgeous African man who was doing nothing but looking at us intensely, as if urging us to come after him. His wine raised to his lips, which he didn't drink and his other hand in his trouser pocket.
Joyce was mad when I said it was alright but it went from fry pan to fire when someone came up beside him snickering."I can't believe you are going with plus size and a curvy one. Hi...my name is Mide." He offered us a handshake while I glared at him for referring to us as a one night thing.
"I believe your mom at home is plus plus size, you really know how to run your mouth like tap" Joyce retorted, dancing with her shoulders. Left right...left right...left right... waiting for the banter to continue.
Too bad if Bayo saw us ruining his chance to look responsible by his useless female friends. "Let it go...I believe if they behave like ass, we should be more responsible."
"Sassy." Mide drawled.
"I'm sorry." Mr amusement or whatever that was playing beside him said. "But who invited you?"
I lifted my eyes as wishing I could snatch his drink and bath him with it. But not at this beautiful dinner going on.
"I told you to let me wash these guys in the first place." Joyce whined and he smiled.
I didn't know the name I could call it at that very moment. I wasn't an expert in love at first sight or saying this is it. but it was a little throb pulling my mind in few minutes. It was amazing, yet scaring due to the fact that my boyfriend dumped me two months ago. I had feelings for Austin but not this type of thing that pull at my heart every minute I look at him. With the way he spoke, his voice deep and rich. It carried love, authority and something I was yet to lay my fingers on. When we couldn't reply due to my stuck tongue, my friend pulled me away from them and we entered the place. Immediately we saw our friend who was with his parents to witness the special occasion. It was something done before the graduation which takes place the next day.
While we were served and started joking about Bayo's hilarious moments as an undergraduate, I saw two men pulled out the empty seats next to us to sit down. It turned out Bayo knew the annoying gentlemen which made me glare more.
Well, Joyce was the first to forgive. Bayo invited me to join him and his parents for some exchanges, hoping that I could meet top dignitaries but Joyce later went with him. Soon her father would read it in the newspapers tomorrow and it would look like she graced it on his behalf.
Mide asked if I want more drink, nudging his friend who had only look at me twice throughout today for more. He declined that he was full already. Leaving just two of us to sit awkwardly at the table.
