CHAPTER 36 - BLACKAHLIA

POV HAILEY

BAGO ko makabalik ng dormitory ay naka-receive ako ng message kay Mason na magkita kami sa likuran ng CRAM building. Inaasahan ko na agad na cancelled ang aming daily late afternoon meet-up, kaya nagulat ako na gusto niya pa rin makipagkita sa akin.

"Hey, I received your message. Akala ko busy ka?" tanong ko kay Mason habang nakaupo siya sa bench na nakaharap sa lake.

"Busy saan? Palagi naman tayo nagkikita dito sa likod ng school ah?"

"Busy sa ex mo na isa pa lang Provost sa Takoyaki School of Wizardry?"

"Takoyaki? Come here, sit down. Mag-usap muna tayo."

"If you are going to break up with me, hindi ako papayag."

"What are you saying? I am not going to break up with you. I am going to tell you exactly why Yulia Kushnir is here."

Binuksan ni Mason ang kayang Flippies, pero hindi tulad ng phone ko, ang Flippies niya ay puwede ma-fold ng apat na beses. He unfolded the phone and it now looks like a glass tablet.

"Hailey, do you remember the emergency meeting a few weeks ago?"

"Sabi mo follow-up lang tungkol sa Death Worm monster na biglang lumitaw sa school grounds. The Professors are just fortifying the school barriers. May problema ba?"

"Actually, yes. While we are talking right now, the CRAM reps are also having a meeting with Professor Anya Graham."

"Ah 'yong astig na teacher ng Offensive Magic?"

"Yes, they are discussing this critical matter."

Ipinakita sa akin ni Mason ang isang video sa kanyang glass-like phone slash tablet. Ito ang indoor olympic-size pool ng CRAM school.

May isang level ng school na dedicated for physical activities kung saan may malaking swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court at gym.

Kung paano ito nagkasya sa CRAM castle ay marahil gawa ng magic ni Celina Renard.

Napakunot ako ng noo nang makita ko ang kulay ng swimming pool. Kulay itim ito na parang may nagtapon ng napakaraming black ink sa tubig. Mas nagulat ako nang makita ko ang isang babae na lumulutang sa gitna nito. Sigurado ako na hindi ito buhay dahil may kutsilyo na nakabaon sa dibdib nito.

"Mason, may murder sa loob ng CRAM school?"

"Murder slash black magic sacrifice."

Mason zoomed the video and I can see black gerbera-like flowers around the dead body in the form of a circle.

"Anong bulaklak 'yan? Parang black Gerbera Daisies."

"It is called Blackahlia, an extinct magical plant that can only be raised using dark magic."

"Dark Magic? Mason, ako lang ang Dark Magic user dito. Well, syempre ikaw din. Suspect ba tayo?"

"The Provost considered us persons of interest until they found out that the same thing happened in the wizard school in Japan. You have never been there."

"Sino ang gagawa nito? Hindi ba ito na-detect ng magical server ng CRAM or ng mga magical CCTV ng school?"

"The Dark Magic erased any visible evidence that would point to the suspect. Kaya kami nagka-emergency meeting ay para pag-usapan kung anong gagawin sa estudyante na namatay. We want to send her body back to her family in Germany, but she is still radiating with Dark Magic. We decided to confine her body here for the meantime."

"Mason, sabi mo isa itong Black Magic sacrifice? Kadalasan kapag may ganito, hindi ba may binubuhay silang patay?"

"That is our first theory. Someone out there wants to revive something evil and we do not know what exactly we are dealing with. Our second theory? Someone wants your power for themselves. Our third theory is a combination of the two. Someone wants pure Dark Magic to revive an evil entity."

"Gusto din nila ng explosive power ko? Gusto din ba nilang sumabog?"

"Hailey, you are the Ultima Incantatrix. You have a massive amount of Dark Magic in you. What is keeping this diabolical power at bay are the potions given by Professor Kent and your nullification ability. Without these, you will go nuclear."

"Eh kung sinusunod mo ang suggestion ko sa'yo, eh 'di baka nabawasan ng isa ang problema mo," sabi ko sabay dahan dahan na hinahaplos ang suit ng Mason na malapit sa kanyang dibdib.

"Stop seducing me in public, my dear pet."

"May concealment spell ka naman, 'di ba? No one can see us here."

"Thade and Rayah can see us. The concealment spell that I used is originally from my sister Julia Maddison Elizalde-Garcia. It means, any students here with Elizalde's blood can see us."

"Are you scared that your nephew and your niece will see us like this?"

"They call me Uncle Mason, but they are technically my grandchildren. And no, I am not scared of them. I think you are the one who should be scared of me. I told you, I am not human. I was the embodiment of evil when I first came to life. Who knows if I can absorb your Dark Magic and keep it for myself?"

"Mason, kung tatakutin mo ko, mas mabuting kung wala kang damit. For sure, mas kakabahan ako kapag nakita kitang walang saplot. Your mere words will not scare the hell out of me. You want to absorb my Dark Magic? Really? You don't even have the balls to kiss me!"

"Reverse psychology will not work on me. And no kiss for you tonight."

"Tsk! Boyfriend nga pero walang kiss sa lips?"

"You are not really asking for a kiss, Hailey. You are asking me to fuck you."

"Correction, make love. That is different. And yes, I will not deny that. Sino ayaw ng fucking sa pogi na boyfriend kung alam mo na pwede ka na mamamatay anytime."

"Try harder, dark witch. Baka ma-convince mo na ko sa susunod," sabi ni Mason at kinuha ang kamay ko para pumasok sa loob ng CRAM bulding.

Try harder daw? Paasa talaga eh!
