CHAPTER 42 - GLOBUS

POV MASON

I CANNOT seem to label this unpleasant emotion that I am feeling right now. This is entirely new to me, but I am quite certain that this is what human often call Fear.

Fear of losing Hailey Shade. Fear of not being able to protect.

"Professor Elizalde, I was the youngest Arcane Lord chosen by the Cradle of Magic. I was only twenty five when I became the Arcane Lord. But before that, I was also a professor here in CRAM. I specifically chose this school as this was built by the greatest White Witch of all time."

Greatest White Witch of all time? I guess he did not meet my sister Julia Maddison.

"And do you know my forte?"

Had I known the answer, I would certainly have told you.

"Dark Magic, Mr. Elizalde. Before you, I was a professor of Dark Magic here in CRAM. But I asked the Provost Hagel to remove my history in this school and he happily obliged. I want the new students to know me as the Arcane Lord, not the former Dark Magic professor."

Who cares if he is Professor Snape ages ago?

"Magic Nullification is a top-notch magical ability. It is rare as it stems from the equal amount of Dark Magic and Light Magic."

This Arcane Lord is getting annoying by the minute.

"This sphere on my hand is called a Globus Glaze. A unique anti-magic tool used to freeze all magical abilities in a short period of time."

Globus Glaze looks like a sphere made of ice. It reminds of a Chi Ball, but this one looks transparent.

Itinaas niya ang isang kulay puting bilog na nasa kamay niya at nagliwanag ang buong Aquamarine Dungeon.

"When I say all magical abilities, it includes Magic Nullification."

Ibinigay niya sa akin ang Globus Glaze at nandoon ang tila live video ni Hailey na mukhang nagtatago sa ilalim ng lamesa ng laboratory room ni Kent.

"I will take care of the Ultima Incantatrix myself. You are right, she is just a kid. Rest assured that she is safe in my hands, the Arcane Lord's hands," sabi niya sa amin bago tuluyan na maglaho sa harapin namin ng Provost.

Kulang na lang ay tumakbo ko palabas ng Aquamarine Dungeon para puntahan agad si Hailey, pero bago ko tuluyan makalabas ay bigla akong tumama sa isang invisible wall.

"Provost, what is this?" tanong ko habang pinagsusuntok ang invisible barrier sa pinto.

"It is a shield wall using Air Elemental Magic. It will take awhile before I will be able to take this down," sabi ni Provost Hagel habang hinahawakan ang barrier.

"Bakit ginawa ito ng Arcane Lord?"

"I think he deliberately prolonged the conversation to create this wall, to trap as here. Riku was a pain in the ass when he was a student. He is fond of these magical tricks to make fun of other students, but I do not think he will harm the Ultima Incantatrix."

"We do not know that! Hindi natin alam kung ano ang binabalak niya!"

Lumipas ang ilang minuto ay saka pa lang nawala ang shield wall. Nagmabilis akong tumakbo papunta sa laboratory room ni Kent para hanapin si Hailey.

If only I can turn myself into a black smoke form inside the school premise, it will be easier.

Pagdating ko sa laboratory room ay bukas na ang pinto. Wala doon si Kent at wala din doon ang Arcane Lord. Sinilip ko ang table kung saan ko nakita si Hailey sa Globus Glaze, pero wala na siya doon.

If I found out that this wretched Arcane Lord took Hailey, I will not hesitate to go back to my old self just to have her back.

"Mason..."

Paglingon ko sa likod ay naroon si Hailey na nakatingin sa labas ng bintana. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang ginawa at kung ano ang sinabi sa kanya ng Arcane Lord pero hindi niya marahil nagustuhan ito dahil malungkot ang mukha nito.

"Hailey, what happened?"

Nagmamadali akong lumapit sa kanya at niyakap siya. Kung kailangan magtago kami ni Hailey sa kung saang sulok ng mundo para hindi kami mahanap ng Arcane Lord, gagawin ko.

"What did he say to you? Pinuntahan ka ba niya dito?" tanong ko habang hinahaplos ang buhok niya.

"He said that my days are numbered. Wala daw makakapigil sa trahedya na haharapin ko."

"We all know that, but there must be another way. What else did he say?"

"Sabi niya, gusto niyang sumama ako sa kanya sa Japan. Hahanap daw siya ng paraan para ma-extend ang buhay ko. Natatakot ako, Mason."

"And did you say yes?"

"I did."

"Damn it, Hailey! Bakit mo sinabi 'yon? We don't even know if he wants your Dark Magic for himself," I asked her as I cupped her face.

He is the Arcane Lord, the leader of all magic wielders of this world, but I do not trust him. The only people that I trust right now are my family and Hailey.

"Mason, sabi ko sa kanya, sasama lang ako kung kasama kita. Pumayag naman siya. Doon daw ako sa Japan magse-second year."

"What do you mean second year? Hindi ka niya pinilit na sumama sa kanya ngayon?"

"No, he wants me to go to Japan next year. Gusto niya na pumunta ko doon pagka-graduate ko ng course ko. Mukha naman siyang mabait, pero natatakot pa rin ako sa kanya. I can feel too much power from him. It is like he is overflowing with all kinds of magic, even with Dark Magic. It is equally distributed inside of him."

"That is called Magnification Magic."

"Magnification?"

"Magnification Magic is a type of Light Magic wherein you can see the type of magic a wizard can wield. In your case, you are able to see all of the magic that the current Arcane Lord can use."

"Light Magic? Bakit ako marunong ng Light Magic?"

"Maybe your mother has a Werewolf Blood. Werewolves are known to be wielders of Light Magic."

"May lahi akong Werewolf? Mason, this is not good. Tingin ko kailangan mo mag-ingat sa akin."

"Why?"

"Baka kagatin kita mamayang gabi. Alam mo na, weekend bukas? Hindi ba sa cabin mo ko matutulog mamaya?"

"Bakit mamayang gabi mo pa ko kakagatin kung pwede naman ngayon?"

"Ay huwag mo ko biruin, hindi lang kagat aabutin mo sa akin!"

Napuno ng tawanan namin ni Hailey ang buong laboratory room. Kung kanina ay natatakot siya, ngayon ay mukhang masaya na siya.

It is good to know that she can now use Magnification Magic. This is the forte of Professor Umbra Blair, her mother.
