"He's been gone for quite a while now..." Lapis said with a concerned look. She and Garnet were sitting in the living room of the temple, waiting for Wulfenite to return. "Don't worry. You said it yourself. He will be back." Garnet said with a slight smirk. She felt confident. A few moments later, these feelings were justified as Wulfenite entered through the door. "Hey guys. I'm back." "Wulfenite!" Lapis ran up to him and hugged him tight; "I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you! Don't go away, I beg of you. Never, ever go away. I love you, so please...!" Wulfenite was surprised. A mix of surprise and sorrow, yet also of the deepest gratitude he ever felt. "I got my mind made up. I'm still here, and I'll always be here, because I want to see you more each day. To share in your happiness, to support you in your sadness... But most of all, I'll still be here because I want to see your smile. Your true smile." Lapis began sobbing uncontrollably on Wulfenite's chest, her arms clutched his back as tightly as she could: "Wulfie! Wulfie!" "It's okay, Lapis. I'll never go away. I promise." Garnet looked on with tears in her eyes. This sight was beautiful. She took off her visor to dry her eyes. So they remained. For a long time.
"Garnet, we're back!" Steven yelled as he warped in the temple. Lapis and Wulfenite were sleeping on the couch. Garnet was cleaning Steven's room. "Hello Steven. Welcome home." She said with a smile. "Woah, Wulfs, what happened to your gemstone?" Amethyst mentioned. "Hm? Is something wrong?" Lapis asked. Wulfenite showed his gemstone. "Oh! When did this happen?" Lapis asked. Wulfenite's face turned sour: "I just had a part surgically removed. No big deal. It was surprisingly soft to cut, though." "No big deal?! There's a part missing!" Steven yelled; "Hold on, I have something for that." "But Wulfenite, why did you do this?" Pearl asked. "The universe will always need protecting. I just made sure it would get just that after I'm done. That's all I can say on the matter." Everyone was thinking, except for Steven. He returned from the kitchen with two band aids. He placed them in the form of an 'X' over the southeast side of the gem, where a part was missing. "There you are! Now it will... uh... stay clean!" Steven said proudly. Wulfenite laughed and patted Steven on the head. "Thanks, little man." "You sure you can't tell us about your wound?" Amethyst asked. "I'm sorry, but if I told you, you would do something about it. I can't allow that. This is too important." Wulfenite stated. "Now then, I need to check if I am still me. I might need to some training. What about you all?" Wulfenite asked. The Crystal Gems looked at each other, each one bearing a smirk on their face. "Let's do this." All the gems ran outside. They jumped over the railing and landed on the beach. Lapis and Wulfenite on one side and the Crystal Gems on the opposite side. The Crystal Gems all fused together. "Woah... Steven is a part of Alexandrite now?" Wulfenite asked. "Wulfenite! Don't you see it? The gem on the temple! It's the same one we see before us!" Lapis pointed out. "Holy Smoky Quartz! You're right! This is Obsidian! I've heard about her. This will be extremely tough, but not for Lolite." Wulfenite looked at Lapis and bounced his eyebrows up and down. "Haha, I was hoping you'd say that!" Lapis said with a smile. Wulfenite took Lapis's hand and twirled her around him. After a while, they fused together. "Ah, time for me to bring the pain, it seems." Lolite said. Obsidian roared from the distance. "Let's show them what we're made of!" Lolite said as she summoned her wand. She called forth a giant tidal wave that crashed onto Obsidian, almost toppling her. Obsidian summoned her bow and fired multiple arrows at Lolite, who simply made them disappear with her wand. "Don't feel bad, even I can't explain what this wand does!" Lolite said smug. Obsidian crashed her giant fist into Lolite, who managed to catch it and barely keep it from flattening her. With her other hand, she summoned a circle of water, which extended icicle spikes from its surface, which she then stuck into Obsidian's hand. Obsidian jumped back in pain. Lolite flew in for a punch, but was kicked up with a somersault. Lolite surrounded herself with water and created a drill around her, which she sent crashing down into Obsidian. Obsidian summoned her shield to thwart the attack. And so the two kept at it for a long, long time.
"I suppose... it's a... draw, then?" Wulfenite panted. Both fusions unfused from exhaustion. "Fine." Amethyst huffed. "Good fight." Garnet said as she extended her hand to help Lapis up. "That it was. Nice moves, Garnet." "Oh, just something I picked up in the years." Garnet said with a smile. "Well now, I am drained. Time for me to take a nap. See you all tomorrow?" Wulfenite said. "Of course. Until tomorrow, you two!" Pearl said. The gems waved each other goodbye while Wulfenite and Lapis flew off. "So, why do you guys think he got rid of that shard?" Amethyst hastily asked as they walked back to the temple.
