Chapter 53

"Strange, we didn't find anything either." Amethyst said to Steven. The four other gems had already arrived at the first kindergarten. They were talking about how they both found nothing. Then, Wulfenite and Pearl crashed into the kindergarten, with Wulfenite saving Pearl by throwing her up a bit, letting her land in style. Wulfenite however, crashed head first into the dead soil. "Are you okay, Wulfenite?" Steven asked worried. Wulfenite didn't respond. He just gave a thumbs up. "So, did you guys find something?" Pearl asked. All of the others reacted with no. "That's too bad. Luckily, we did find something!" Pearl said. "That's right!" Wulfenite said as he jumped up; "We found..." Everyone looked confused at Wulfenite. A drop of sweat slipped from Wulfenite's forehead. "Pearl." Wulfenite whispered. "Oh right!" Pearl said and summoned the boot from her gem; "We found this boot!" Everyone looked amazed, except Amethyst: "So? It's just a boot." "It's not just a boot! It perfectly matches Wulfenite's boot!" Pearl said with a angry tone. "So it's Wulfenite's boot." Pearl smacked her forehead. "It's a boot that looks like mine if we compare size and desi-" Wulfenite was interrupted by Amethyst: "I'm joking, I get it." "We were wondering if you could shapeshift into a regular sized Amethyst so that we can test if it fits you, because it isn't mine." Wulfenite asked. "Sure, give me it." Amethyst said as she shapeshifted into a regular Amethyst. "It fits, but it's a bit big." "So it's not from an Amethyst. Great. Can you try shapeshifting into a Jasper?" "Easy." After a long time of shapeshifting, the gems came to the conclusion that the boot didn't fit anyone but Wulfenite. "Maybe it is your boot." Epidote said; "And you just forgot about it because you lost it!" "It could be, it was a long time ago. All those days there, the gems, the ships, the days under the moonli-" Suddenly, Wulfenite smacked his forehead and did a backflip, landing with his face on the floor; "Pearl! Do you remember what direction that one ship went?!" Pearl grabbed a compass from her gem: "Uh, if I remember correctly, it went towards our galaxy." "And do you remember our promise if we ever got separated, which you disobeyed after you left with Rose?" "Of course! If we ever got separated without reason while we were outside of Homeworld, we would head back to your throne immediately using the X-Pb16." "Well, I made that same promise with Lapis back on earth, but the location was the lighthouse in Beach City and the ship was the Moon Explorer version 36! It was the only one used on earth, you know." "So we saw Lapis fly that ship?!" "High possibility. Epidote! Send us to the lighthouse! We might have completed our mission!" Epidote summoned a portal underneath the gems and so they returned to earth.

The gems fell onto each other at the lighthouse. "Ugh! Get off me!" Amethyst pushed Steven away. Epidote came last from the portal and stood onto the heap of gems. "Sorry." She said as jumped off. The other gems got up. "Okay Mr. Contingency Plan, let's go inside. Let's hope she's there." Amethyst said. The gems entered the lighthouse. There she sat. Sitting on the couch. "Lapis!! We found you!!" "Wulfenite!!" The two hugged each other tightly. "Thank the stars we found you! I thought you died!" "We broke out easily and I remembered the plan, so you just had to come here! I'm glad you didn't forget! Did you get that black evil gem?" "I did, but she isn't so bad. Epidote? Come here you!" Wulfenite yelled happily. "Uh dude, she left." Amethyst said. "Oh. Well, she's probably on her private planet like always." "So she's friendly to you?" Lapis asked; "Did she tell you about Ultranite?" Everyone went silent. "W-what?" Wulfenite asked. "Before Epidote abducted me, she whispered: Ultranite can use you two well." "Does that mean Epidote LIED?!" Wulfenite got very angry. "How could she do that?! Who is Ultranite? Who did she-" Lapis kissed Wulfenite on his mouth, shutting him up. "Listen, she works for her. Ultranite is considered the so called 'Daughter of the Diamonds'. Sound familiar?" "That's MY title! Well, that, but male." The others gasped. Lapis explained all of the info she got from Homeworld. Everyone listened well and asked several questions. Once Lapis was done, Pearl brought up another subject. "How did you deal with Peridot's death?" "What do you mean? Peridot isn't dead. She's in the ocean, inspecting the crashed Moon Explorer. It was a wild ride." "WHAT?! But we saw her die! She got shattered in that one courtroom thing!" "Oh yeah. We saw that too, it was an ordinary Peridot. There are more than one, silly." The doors opened and Peridot entered: "The ship is beyond repair. Let's hope tha-" Peridot saw the gems sitting around Lapis. "PERIDOT!!" Wulfenite ran to her and hugged her tightly. The others joined in. "We're so glad you're still alive!" "What?" Peridot said.

"Well, I'm not dead and I am glad you guys aren't as well." Wulfenite had explained everything to Peridot. "Let's go home. It's late. We'll find Ultranite later." Wulfenite said; "For now, it's important that we all stay safe. If anything happens, get over to the barn ASAP. Got it? Garnet, can you make sure the temple is safe?" Garnet gave a thumbs up. "Good. Then let's go back home. I can use a reassured nap." And so the gems went home.

Back at the barn, Wulfenite lifted Peridot into the bed. Lapis lay down in the big bed, too. They made a deal that they should all sleep in the same bed for safety, so they did. "Goodnight, guys!" Wulfenite said and he kissed Peridot on her gem and Lapis on her lips. "Goodnight, Wulfenite." Lapis and Peridot said together. Suddenly, they heard barking from downstairs. Wulfenite looked over the edge of the bed and he saw Pumpkin. "Aw, do you want to sleep here too?" Pumpkin began barking enthusiastically. "Step on my tablet I'll lift you up, Pumpkin." Peridot said. Pumpkin stood on the tablet and was lifted up to the bed.  "Pumpkin jumped in the bed and the tablet sunk back to the floor. "Now that everyone's here, let's get some sleep." Lapis said already half asleep.

The next day, the gems were woken up by the sound of a horn. "Wha? Whuzzdere?" Wulfenite said as he opened one eye. Peridot sat upright and had a scared look on her face: "YOU CLODS! You scared me!" The honking sound came from a van. "Get in! We're going to the Cool Ranch! It has been snowing!" Amethyst yelled. "...What is snow?" Wulfenite asked. "You'll find out. Come on!" Wulfenite lifted Peridot down from the bed and jumped down too. He landed face down on the floor. "His stupidity will be his doom one day." Garnet states. "Honestly though. He's such a doofus." Steven whispered. Wulfenite got up and got in the van. Peridot and Lapis followed. "Everybody buckle up! It's going to be a long ride! Sadly, I can't stay, but you'll be sure to have fun without me, right?" Greg said through all the commotion. "Eh, they'll notice my absence eventually." Greg muttured to himself. "Probably." Garnet said, who sat next to Greg. "Just take good care of Steven. I don't want him going to space again." Garnet gave a thumbs up: "He's grown a whole lot. Even you must acknowledge that." "I know, but he's still my son. If duty calls, I'd like to be informed, at least. Can you do that for me, Garnet?" Greg asked. "Of course. You deserve to know." Garnet said, not moving her eyes from the road. The rest of the trip, the gems in the back talked all about what they were going to do at the Cool Ranch. There was some confusion about some things with Wulfenite, but he did learn a lot of new words. An hour later, Greg announced that they had arrived. Greg and Steven unpacked the van and the gems waved goodbye to Greg, who would pick them up one week later. "That was the slowest trip I ever went on." Wulfenite said. "Hey, at least you had fun with us in the van." Steven said, trying to sugarcoat the duration. "I guess you're right, little man." Wulfenite said as he gave Steven a pat on the back. The ranch was covered in snow. "I hope the locks aren't frozen solid. That would be bad." Steven used the key he got from Greg and luckily, it worked. "Ah, there we go. Do come in!" Steven said. The gems entered the house. "Woah, it's almost completely wood." Peridot said. "That's part of the mood it sets." Pearl said; "It makes it feel comfier inside. "Well, I'm going outside." Peridot said as she clothed herself with warm clothing; "I am going to inspect the snow." Peridot walked outside. "Okay, I will make the beds and put the clothes in the closets." Pearl announced and she went to the adjacent room. Garnet, Steven, Amethyst and Wulfenite sat on the couch. "Say Steven, what is that giant wooden circle filled with ice outside?" Wulfenite asked. Right before Steven could answer, Amesthyst yelled: "That's a hot tub, dude! Don't you know what that is?" "Why is it called hot tub if it's frozen solid?" "It isn't supposed to be frozen, but the cold weather cooled the water off and eventually froze it. That's how water works! C'mon, I'll show you how to turn the hot tub on, Wulfenator!" Amethyst yelled and she pulled Wulfenite outside. "So, what shall we do?" Steven asked Garnet. "I know! Let's play chess!" Steven said as he grabbed a chess set from under the table; Also, where's Lapis?" Garnet shrugged.
