No One's POV

"I'm here!" Karen bursts into her coop of poultry. The creatures responsible for her livelihood and money-maker, as well as her happiness, she's living alone after all. Aside from the customary visits of Mahiru and Suzu from time to time, Mahiru worries and Karen knows that. She's just very accustomed to being in the presence of feathered beings or animals in general. Maybe it's because her parents raised her along with them.

The goose in the corner twitched and flipped open its wings like it was welcoming the auburn-haired girl in.

"Hello, goose! It's so nice to see you too!" Karen scoops the goose into her arms and runs her fingers along the back of the goose. It couldn't stop leaning into the touch and its head had already nestled in Karen's arms. "You've given me yet another golden egg... I just hope you're not hurt or something... But! It's really a miracle you lay those eggs every day. I kept on asking myself as to how you do it and I gave up. Junjun might have an answer or something ready if she were here. But then Banana will wo-"

The sound of her chickens brought her back to the reason she was here in the first place. Feed the chickens and also the goose. Karen looked down at the creature that was in her arms, it looked so peaceful it fell asleep. Shrugging her shoulders, Karen carefully put the goose down on a stack of hay that was laid out for the goose. She then proceeded to put food before the chickens and the goose. Satisfied, she cleaned her hands with a tap on her pants and made one last look at the creatures in her coop, her eyes lingering on the sleeping goose before finally setting off with a pail of eggs in one hand.

It was time for her to go down to the market and sell her harvest.

The goose as per usual woke up to the sounds of clucking from the chickens. It blinked its eyes open and was greeted with the undeniably close chickens just a step away. Startled, the goose opened its wings letting the chickens go away.

It was about time. The goose thought to herself and distanced herself away from the chickens as it happened. She curled herself up and the beautiful figure of a girl with black hair had appeared. She heard her stomach grumble, she took a short glance at the prepared food for her from the auburn-haired girl. Deciding that it was not suitable for her stomach with her current and now permanent form, she boldly takes a step outside of the coop and into the nearby house, instantly assuming it was the auburn-haired's.

At this point, it was her stomach that was pushing her forward and the drive to find food for herself, whatever she could find. When she found a strange cabinet that gives off a cold air that brought chills to her naked body. At last, she found something to stuff herself with and a way for her to pass time. She spent most of that time staring off into space and wondered to herself when the auburn-haired will come back.

Then she heard the cheerful steps coming toward the house. Judging by that kind tune, she inferred it was the auburn-haired. Anticipating her arrival, she stood in front of the door. Karen absentmindedly opened the door which also did the same for her mouth, her body moving fast to find something for Hikari to cover herself with. Then that conversation happened with Hikari explaining to Karen what she is.

The next day, at sunset...

"Hikari-chan! I brought you something!" Karen opened the door, violently meeting the wall and slowly coming back at Karen which hit her side. Karen placed a box on the table and moved her hand to the pained side, moving her hand up and down while wincing in pain. It was not that painful but it still kinda hurt for the auburn-haired girl.

"Welcome back Karen." Hikari speedily walked towards Karen, curiously peering over the box that was just placed on the table. She looked at Karen worriedly and asked, "Does it hurt that much? Should I go get something to treat it with?"

"No no, I'm fine. It will be gone in a second." Karen, not wanting to worry the black-haired, she showed her her brightest smile. It worked for the black-haired and was now excitedly looking back on the box on the table, silently asking what she had brought back with her.

"It's a cake." Karen slid her fingers above the box, taking the lid off of the box.

"Cake?"

"It's food." Karen laughed at how cute the black-haired girl was being. "I wanted to celebrate you coming into my life. I'd like to treat it as your birthday."

"Birthday? You mean the day I was born?"

"Something like that." Karen scratched her cheek. "Happy birthday Hikari-chan. Looking forward to facing the coming days with you by my side."

Hikari couldn't make a word come out of her mouth. She was touched, so touched, she was speechless. In fear of making Karen frown, she moved forward and just brought the auburn-haired girl to her chest in a hug. It was supposed to be her to be giving something back for all the care she was given by Karen in the past months but she was given yet another precious memory.

"H-Hikari-chan?"

"Thank you, Karen. Really. You were enough of a gift already." Hikari mumbled, making the girl in her arms to shift away from the hold.

"Eh?"

"Let's eat cake. I'm excited to know what it tastes." Hikari ignored the exclamation from Karen and returned her attention to the delicious looking product on the table.

"Hikari-chan, what was that?" Karen wanted to know what Hikari just said but was sadly given the cold shoulder.

"Karen, spoon."

"Alright, alright. Wait Hikari-chan." Defeated, Karen walked to her counter to retrieve two spoons with a small frown on her face. "At least you're happy."
