Returning the Favor (MayaKuro)

Maya's POV

Since she went to the trouble of doing that last time, it should be obvious that I would probably be doing something for her too.

At the mention of that last event, Ma Claudine prepared a surprise for me. If I were honest with myself, I was plenty happy with what she had done for me.

Now the problem lies with what I should present her with. I only know that she likes macarons...

...Should I try baking?

No. That's out of the question. I can't cook. So let's think of another way.

"-dou! Oi! Tendou!" I was brought out of my thoughts, seeing a hand waving right before my face. By the way this person is addressing me, it's Isurugi-san.

"Oh, hello Isurugi-san." With the usual calm reserve, I replied back with a smile. "Is something the matter?"

"Yes, actually. You're acting very strange today. After all, you never make those kinds of small mistakes with the classes lately. Is something bothering you?" She sat on the space beside me on the bench that I have found myself sitting on.

Should I just tell her about it? But...

"Before that, why is Hanayagi-san not with you today? It's just rare to see you alone."

"Ah, Kaoruko. Hoshimi got her hand on her and is like gunning her the lessons she just missed while she was sleeping." Isurugi-san let out a chuckle and scratched the back of her neck, kind of embarrassed what her partner has put herself into. I, myself was holding back a giggle.

"That's definitely the work of Hoshimi-san."

"So what's on your mind Tendou?" It almost looked like her eyes were sparkling. Maybe she got this from Hanayagi-san and likes to stick their noses to other people's business? But that's also part of their charm, I guess.

"Honestly, I'm stuck on what to do for Saijou-san's birthday. You know what happened on mine. So I just want to do the same too." When the words came out of my mouth, a big grin had formed on her face.

"Kuro-ko, huh? Right, with the celebration and all. We had quite the feast that day." She beamed as she remembered what had happened. It had also made me smile. "You should maybe consult Banana too. She could tell you her thoughts. She knows a lot about everyone so she's the perfect person to ask."

"I know, but I also want to hear yours. Have you bought a present for her already?" Curious at what she could have gotten for her, I somehow closed the distance on the bench subconsciously.

"B-back off a bit, Tendou. I only got her a rain of candy 'cuz that's what I do. Nobody complains with my candies right?"

"So that's why I got a lot of baumkuchen. You bought me some." At the mention of the delicious delicacy, I couldn't stop the sparkles in my eyes.

"If it's from you Tendou... hmm, Kuro-ko would be happy with anything!" She concluded with a big wide smile on her face. Adding more confidence with her hands on her waist.

"Right, so I need to settle on something." I rested my chin on my hand, pondering about it until I got it. "Thank you, Isurugi-san."

"I-it was my pleasure." She was a bit startled with my outburst and when I suddenly stood up from my seat. Then a relieved smile was on her face a second later. "Glad I could help."

I consulted Daiba-san a lot. I was afraid I was keeping her too much that Hoshimi-san would kill me. But the latter is certainly much scarier and Daiba-san is happy to help. It almost seems like she was expecting this to happen.

She tried really hard to keep herself composed around the platinum blonde.

Then the dreaded day came.

"Maya, could I have a moment?" The anticipated platinum blonde unexpectedly asked for time alone which made her heart hitch.

"Sure, of course." I looked at the smiling blonde who was just a step across the doorstep and gave her a nod. With that, I took off from my seat and followed my muse.

"Maya." She called with her back facing me which made me lean my head to the side.

"Yes?" I replied just like always but it seemed like she was fidgeting with her fingers, probably pondering on what to say.

So to take away this awkward atmosphere, I took a step forward and wrapped my hands to her stomach. She almost jumped at the sudden touch which was cute. She's always cute. Especially with that pouty face. I can't help but giggle when it passes into my mind.

She seemed to relax into the touch and even put over her hand over mine. In turn, I rested my chin on her shoulder. While also quietly slipping in an accessory with their hands interlaced. Claudine couldn't feel the sudden feel of iron-like thing on her finger, that's because I completely wrapped her hand in mine.

"Are you better now?" I whispered into her ear. Also noting the lack of students in the hallway which just explains that it is after school.

"Yes, thank you." I can feel a smile forming from the way she swayed her head. "Actually, it had been over my head but I have a feeling that you're doing something for me today. Just by knowing how you think."

"Yep, exactly as you think."

"H-hey, you're not going to deny it?!" She broke free from the hold and faced me.

"Why should I? You already figured it out. I'm not going to deny it. I already did my part anyway, so I'm happy with it." I couldn't stop the grin when I saw that face. I pointed to her left hand which she obediently followed her eyes with. An expression of shock and surprise was definitely on that shriek. "Now that you've seen it, let's go back to the dorms. Daiba-san and the others are waiting for us with a feast."

"W-wait! I have to take this in first." She took deep breaths while holding on to my wrist.

"Take all the time you need." In the meantime, I showed her my left hand which drove another silent scream out of her mouth. I could practically see tears starting to water from her eyes.

"W-what the heck?! Are you trying to kill me?" She gasped for air as she tightened her grip on my shoulders. A wide grin was already forming on my face.

"Nope." I flatly replied. I put my hands on her waist again and made her attention back on me. "So what do you say? A pleasant surprise, is it not?"

"S-shut up, you infuriating woman!" A deep blush was already on her cheek. "...Of course, it's an okay..." She bashfully replied while I rested my forehead with hers.

"I'm so happy you're saying that." I lifted her chin and smiled. "With that, happy birthday Ma Claudine."

"Oh shut up, ...thanks." I let her speak before I took her lips which she gladly accepted.

Well it is a lot later, but it's for Claudine's bday! It's the continuation of the previous one of course.

So in short, Maya sort of proposed to Claudine, but they're still in high school so that means Claudine is rightfully reserved for Maya until the main event happens.
