Yuyuko's POV
I'm used to seeing her all flustered when she's around Tamao-san. But there are definitely times when you can rely on her which is a bit unexpected. That's part of her charm, I guess.
"Rui! That's not the right form!" Fumi-san as always is strict. I get chills the moment I get a dangerous aura around her. But she's calm around Ichie-san for some reason. And I think I know the reason.
"Yes!" Rui immediately fixes her form and raises the wooden sword above her. Well, Rui is being herself. She's serious and composed when training with Fumi-san. But Fumi-san said that Rui was better at her in fighting scenes, why is it the way around now?
"Hello~" I slowly walked in tiptoes towards the focused two.
"Ah, Yuyuko. Do you need something?" Fumi-san breaks her serious face and smiled at me. Rui also relaxes the moment the strict blonde relaxed.
"Yukko? Is something the matter?" Again with that worried face. That kind of pisses me off a bit.
"Nope. I'm completely fine. I was just checking on you two. To make sure that Fumi-san is not working you to exhaustion like what happened last time."
"That was-" Fumi-san was interjected by Rui.
"That was me being harsh on myself." Rui looked pained and guilty as she took a step forward.
"I know." I remarked as I turned my back on the two of them. Silently sending a short signal to Fumi-san, making sure Rui wouldn't notice it. I saw her nod at me and Rui wasn't sure what to think about it.
"What's wrong, Fumi-san?"
"Let's get back to training." Fumi-san clapped her hands once to regain the focus Rui had before I interrupted the practice.
I should also get back to the kitchen with Tamao-san and Ichie-san. I hummed as I walked towards the kitchen of the Tomoe residence. It's Tamao-san's house for short. Almost all of the ninjas in the town go through this place for a short period for training. And it just so happened that we get to practice with the head of the house's daughter.
"So how'd it go?" Ichie-san asked as she was handed a pot of something by Tamao-san.
"Fumi's being hard on her right?" Tamao-san asked for confirmation, her brows were frowning. It's this aspect of her that's making her a bit similar to Rui.
"Yep, and Rui is too." I sighed as I entered the kitchen and walked towards where they were standing. "I still can't get my head wrapped around the reason why Ichie-san is allowed in the kitchen. She almost broke the stove the last time she was here. Shouldn't Fumi-san be here instead?"
"How rude! I've been learning under Fumi for cooking. She even said I've greatly improved." Ichie-san puffed her chest out proudly. I should at least commend her for actually learning how to. As to what I see around now, there's nothing wrong as of the moment.
"Yes, yes Ichie-san." I brushed the sentiment away like I didn't mean it. Tamao-san was just smiling at us for our antics.
"We should finish this up so we can stop those two for overworking themselves." Tamao-san called out on us for continuously teasing each other.
"Yes ma'am!" The both of us put a hand over our head and did a salute as we stood up straight. We wouldn't want Tamao-san getting angry at us. We wouldn't want hell being brought down on us. The last time we saw that was Fumi-san fuming against another ninja from a different clan.
But today is different. Today is a special day. We have to make someone happy today. We have to show her we appreciate her for being born. We can't let that peaceful happiness be replaced with fear and anger.
The three of us did our best in making her favorite. Donuts. I don't know how she came across such a sweet dessert but she looks so happy when I see her eating one she brought from home. That should be enough of a feast for her. Also dinner would be happily served by Tamao-san and Fumi-san. So tonight's going to be a real feast of happiness.
It's about time for Rui and Fumi-san to be feeling hungry. And we're just a few minutes finished with it. We're just waiting for it to cool down for a bit and put it on a suitable plate for it to go with.
"Fumi!" Ichie-san bursts out of the house and greets Fumi with a hug. "I missed you!"
"Yeah, right. It's only been a few hours." Fumi-san relented Ichie-san's skinship. But by the look of her face, she doesn't seem to hate it.
"We made snacks. Come and eat them with me." Tamao-san called the three over and have a seat with them.
"Yes, Tamao-san!" Rui excitedly runs towards us. I was already comfortable on the bench and Rui sat beside me instead of Tamao-san. I guess she's still conscious and embarrassed about being near to Tamao-san.
"Ah! It's donuts!" Rui's eyes sparkled as soon as she saw the whole treat.
"We made it especially for you today, Rui." I somehow felt embarrassed for saying that.
"Especially?" Rui looked up from the treat and met my eyes with a tilt of her head. I only smiled back at her to hide whatever had embarrassed me or something.
"Happy birthday Rui!"
At that, Rui cried and felt touched about the things we did for her.
She cried again come dinner time. The reason behind that is that she was told that Tamao-san made the dinner. She was so touched she could faint. Of course I snapped her out of it with a slap, earning myself a good job from Fumi-san.
