Tamao's POV

"Tamao-han~!" A nostalgic voice comes into my ears. It made my head turn to where it came from. It's not like I didn't hear her voice for a long time, but hearing it made me excited a bit.

I headed for the door to be met with the two of my childhood friends.

"Sorry about springing here without making any notice, Tamao." The shorter of the two scratched the back of her head in apology.

"It's okay, I don't mind. I'm actually happy you guys came." I hastily let them in as I opened the door wide for them.

"We actually brought something for you Tamao-han." Kaoruko shyly gets in from the door, her hands behind her back. I looked at Futaba-san for a change of expression but was only met with a fond smile on her face. That made me look at Kaoruko with a brow raised for just a moment and replaced it with my normal smile.

"Happy birthday Tamao!" Futaba-san said with a wide smile while putting a hand on Kaoruko's shoulders. Kaoruko nodded, her bangs covering her eyes and her hands now in front of her with a wrapped package. I assume Futaba-san said the greeting in Kaoruko's stead.

"T-thank you..." I hesitantly receive the gift as Futaba kept on urging her to do so. "You should come in first and let's have tea. I'll make something up from the ingredients I have in the kitchen while I'm at it."

"Ah, let me handle the cooking Tamao. Kaoruko here, has something she'd like to talk to you about. So take your time." Futaba-san insists as she pushed Kaoruko's shoulders forward. Kaoruko still can't seem to raise her head as per her usual.

"Did she take something that made her stomach upset Futaba-san?" I got worried as to why Kaoruko is not being herself.

"She gave me her green onions, so she hasn't accidentally eaten one while making her proud remarks... I don't think there's any other thing that might upset her." Futaba-san thought to herself, a smirk at the end of the last sentence as she received a light smack from the person in question.

"Futaba-han! Don't tell her unnecessary stuff! Ahem!" Kaoruko put a fist before her mouth then crossed her arms and the usual smirk on her lips. "You don't have to worry about me, Tamao-han. I'm lively. I just lost myself there somewhere."

"She's back now, so I'll leave you two alone and borrow your kitchen for a while Tamao." Futaba-san went to the kitchen and shot us a thumbs up. I assume that was for Kaoruko when I saw also her eyes smile.

"What did you want to talk about Kaoruko?" Curiosity getting to me, I couldn't help but ask.

"We should take a seat first, don't we Tamao-han?"

"Ah, right."

"Are you feeling feverish perhaps? You're not being patient as you always are." Kaoruko said as she comfortably sat on the couch.

"I could say the same to you. To what do I owe your presence today, Kaoruko-sa-ma?" I sat across her, looking satisfied as I saw a line of blush color her cheeks.

"A-anyway, take a good look at your present." She covered up half of her face with her hand fan, eyes peeking over it. I heard Futaba-san laughing to herself and Kaoruko hastily looks to the direction of the laugh.

I pulled on the purple colored ribbon, letting the ribbon fall on the floor as I opened the similarly colored pouch. There wasn't much of a volume when I lifted the pouch, so I was no expecting much. Plus it was a gift from this sly woman in front of me. The last time I received one from her was a prank, like the ones that Ichie liked to pull from time to time to Fumi.

I looked up from the bag, noticing the shy movement of Kaoruko's eyes and the way she was fidgeting with her fingers. This is so rare, I want to record it. But I'm sure Futaba-san has seen this side of her plenty of times. That's the merit of going to the same school as her. No, I'm not saying I wanted to go to Seisho. Rinmeikan was always my dream school. It's more of wanting Kaoruko to attend here, I wonder what would've happened? Of course, Futaba-san will also apply for Rinmeikan if that were the case, she could never leave Kaoruko on her own. But that's beside the point...

I pulled up one sachet of something. I took a good look at the product. It was flower seeds. I looked up to meet her eyes again in disbelief.

"How did you know?"

"How could I not with the way you look at flowers during our flower arranging class when we were kids?" She threw back a question, it was one that didn't need an answer. I only nodded as I continued to look through the names of the flower seeds.

Carnation, Amaryllis, Tulip, Orchid, and Myrtle. Is there any deeper meaning about these flowers than what I am thinking of? It's not anything deep, right? There's just no way Kaoruko would put in too much of an effort in picking a present.

"What do you think? I did a good job right?" She asked, leaning forward. A bit proud at herself for finding me speechless at the gift. I'm in my head to much at the moment. I don't know what to think.

"That was because she had me run her errands." Futaba-san arrives at the perfect timing. I got to hand it to her for knowing how to handle Kaoruko.

"Futaba!" Receiving a light smack on her back, Futaba calmly places down the food she had been cooking in the kitchen. I needed some snacks too and she also brought a few down too.

"Phew... I'm glad it was what I was thinking. Of course, it's going to be Futaba-san behind it." I actually let out a sigh of relief.

"Why are you feeling relieved all of a sudden Tamao-han?" She opens her fan again and fans herself with it.

"You don't have to worry about that. Just know that I greatly appreciate the present." I showed her the most sincere smile I make.

"Glad you liked what I picked Tamao!" Futaba replied back.

"You mean the present I picked out just for her, Futaba-han." This time she smacked Futaba-san on top of her head with the closed fan.

"If you keep on hitting me like that, you'll have to walk back on your own. No free ride on the motorcycle." Futaba-san kept herself firm with her hands crossed as she popped a kinako stick into her mouth.

"Sorry, Futaba-haaaaan! Just not that!" Another good day passed with rare visitors in our dorm. Their usual conversation is always heart warming to watch.

A great way for a birthday to pass.
