No One's POV
Hikari doesn't usually mind it, but lately it really does like an arrow shot through her heart.
Karen being surprised at her suddenly appearing at certain times.
Straying around the dorms in her cat form, Hikari reaches the yard and scratches the ground at the mumbled feelings in her chest.
"It's a surprise seeing you here, Hikari-san." A hooded cat appears in the called girls' vision and Hikari takes a step back in surprise.
"Good morning, Yuyuko-san." Resorting to licking the back of her paws, Hikari greets the stretching cat.
"So, what is on your mind?" Yuyuko returns to bathing under the sun after a good stretch while she keeps the blue cat company.
"It's Karen being unusual." Hikari looks down on Yuyuko's face as she dabs at it lightly with one of her front paws.
"Isn't Karen-san always unusual though?" Yuyuko yawns. Even if she is receiving hit after hit from the older girl, she doesn't make any payback against it.
"You're not helping, but I guess she'll be just fine if that's what you're saying." The warmness of the rays of the sun is slowly seeping through Hikari as she also succumbs to it. She later joins the hooded cat in her spot after weighing her thoughts.
"Junjun!! Have you seen Hikari-chan?" A wavering voice calls out to a pair in front of the dorms.
"No, I haven't seen her. Why?" Junna looks eye to eye with the out of breath dog.
Karen doesn't usually run out of energy this fast, so the cat immediately assumes that Karen's been this way the moment she woke up. Probably has been running around the different dorms looking for Hikari or something.
"Have a treat, Karen-chan." The blonde dog takes out a delicacy from her basket to the other dog. To which Karen's eyes sparkle at the sight and smell of the familiar treat.
"Thanks, Banana!" Karen excitedly says as her tongue delights at the flavors hitting all the right spots. "That brings my energy back. Thanks again, Banana, Junjun."
Karen dashes away as soon as those words leave her lips along with the disappearance of the familiar treat that was just in her hands a minute ago.
"I still don't understand how she decided to call me that." Junna mutters under her breath while meeting Nana's eyes once again. Nana only smiles at her small dilemma.
"Since today's a day off from school, I suspect Hikari-chan to be lazing around in her bed or floor..." Karen thinks out loud as her feet brings her to the mentioned girls' dorm room.
She takes a moment to breathe and checks on what she was holding before knocking on the door. Silence is the only thing that welcomes her. She turns on her heel with her back leaning on the door.
"I knew I should've went straight here the moment I got all my gears together. Where are you, Hikari-chan?" Karen's standing ears slowly goes down as she remembers a couple of times the cat gave her a fright and then making a sad face right after. She was consulting on what to do for this day with other people and she didn't want to spoil on the surprise. Though what she got from other people were more or less the same, just with different wordings.
Karen sighs. She suddenly finds herself watching the yard from the second floor. A second later, she catches a glimpse of a familiar feline enjoying the warmth of the sun.
With her ears perking up, she rushes down the stairs. If she could, she would've jumped down from the second floor directly. But she's not something as slick and quick like a cat, so the idea didn't even register in her head. Karen puts the present between her teeth, careful not to crush it as she transforms into her dog form. She wanted to be by Hikari's side as soon as possible while she runs on four legs speedily to the yard.
She takes her steps lightly as she gets closer to the cat, noticing the waking cat at the same time. Yuyuko yawns and sees the dog they were just talking about. She leaves without a word after meeting with Karen's gaze, but she made sure to give her a little wave before actually leaving.
Karen quietly thanks Yuyuko for understanding her sentiment as she gently puts down the present. It is only after seeing Yuyuko leaves that Karen lightly nudges on Hikari's stomach to know of her presence.
"Karen? Good morning..." Hikari blinks her eyes awake at seeing the dog with her face up close. After a good stretch, she poofs back into her human form to speak normally with the dog as Karen does the same not soon after.
When Hikari remembers their past meetings, she turns away from the dog which greatly saddens Karen.
"Hikari-chan...?" Karen tries to keep a fair amount of seeing the called girls' face but Hikari only keeps on looking away from her. She doesn't want to give up. In this moment however, she has to resist and listen intently to the words Hikari would say.
"Karen doesn't like me as much as I do after all..." The cat mumbles. The dog barely picks the words up with their special hesring and Karen can't believe what she is hearing from the cat girl.
"That isn't true-"
"If it isn't, why do you flinch everytime I go see you when I see you?" With her hands gripping strongly on her skirt, Hikari turns to face Karen with teary eyes.
Karen smiles then she takes a breath, she needed it.
"It's not like that at all, Hikari-chan. But maybe I was just too jumpy on my feet." Karen scratches the beck of her neck while her other hand reaches for the present she securely positioned behind her. "It was just the process I go through with things like these."
Karen shows the present to Hikari with a troubled expression.
"It wasn't my intention to worry you or crush our plans for today. I just wanted it to be a little more special since it is your birthday."
The dog receives a tearful hug from the cat which is more likely to be the cause of a huge burden lifted from Hikari's shoulders. It's like her heart feels a lot lighter now.
"Thank you, Karen." Hikari rubs her falling tears on Karen's shoulder as Karen reaches for her back, stroking it.
