Midnight Sun (HikaMahi)

Mahiru's POV

"Karen-chan!" I called, worried of her chasing after Hikari-chan.

"M-Mahiru-chan!?" She hastily looked back. "Why are you following me?"

"Why, you ask? I'm worried about you and Hikari-chan..." I replied as I slowed my pace.

"Let me take care of Hikari-chan, Mahiru-chan!" She shouted as she quickened her pace.

"Okay, I'll be waiting for you back in the dorm room!" I shouted back as I went on my way back to the dorm.

I mean, what's wrong with Hikari-chan? She always runs off on her own. It's been always like that ever since she transferred to Seisho. I wonder why?

No...

No...

I think there's something wrong with me!

I thought I liked Karen-chan, no- loved her. Ever since I met her in the entrance ceremony. She has always been my guiding star, the shine I've been looking for.

But now...

I'm not even sure anymore...

Who do I like now?

I don't think she even feels the same way...

I like...

I like her...

I like Hikari-chan...

Why?

When?

How?

When did my feelings even change?

I can't answer any of those questions. It's just like what Junna-chan says. You can't really control your feelings but, that's what make you happy...

"We're back!" I heard Karen-chan's voice as she opened our dorm room door.

"Welcome back, Karen-chan, Hikari-chan." I said with a welcoming smile by the door. "So... where did you go?" I faced Hikari-chan with a questioning look.

"I... just went... over there..." She fumbled her words. I don't exactly know what she means until Karen-chan started talking.

"I found her in the library with jellyfish books. I was even scolded there for being loud. It took time until I finally got to get her to come back with me as she was immersed with the jellyfish books." She explained with matching actions which is very Karen-chan-like. I smiled at her and said a silent thank you which she probably never got to understand.

"I'm gonna borrow Hikari-chan for a bit." I took Hikaru-chan's wrist and took her with me out of the dorm.

"M-Mahiru..." I managed to hear her which made me to halt and turn to face her.

"What is it Hikari-chan?" I quickly asked as I felt my heart beat faster. Is it going like this because I've realized my real feelings? Was it just a phase? Me liking Karen-chan?

"It hurts..." She got to say as she was staring down at her hands and was constantly trying to move her hand.

"S-sorry." I quickly let go of her hand and those words came out of my mouth out of reflex. "I didn't mean to hurt you..."

"It's fine. I'm okay." She replied back as she was massaging her wrist that I was holding earlier.

"Hikari-chan, the reason I took you with me is..." I started.

Should I really say it?

I've only realized it today...

I think I shouldn't have realized it in the first place...

I don't think I should say it...

Let's just twist the topic. I'll just ask her in a roundabout way.

"...hiru. Mahiru!" I heard as I felt hands on my shoulders.

"What! What is it?" I asked out of instinct as I broke away from my trance.

"You cut your sentence then you had a blank face. Is anything wrong?" She ask, worry clear in her voice.

I guess I really fell for her. I can't deny that anymore. It's this.

"I'm fine, Hikari-chan. There's nothing wrong." I replied with a reassuring smile. "So let me continue, whag exactly do you think about Karen-chan?"

"Karen? She's someone who made me still me while I was abroad." She answered with a straight face but I felt happiness, somehow?

"What else? Don't you think anything else when you're with her?" I pressed more on the topic as I felt it necessary. I needed real answers, not vague ones.

"What else?" She took a step backward as she was surprised of my behavior that afternoon. "She's loud and annoying but at the same time soothing. I also like being around her sometimes. Sometimes."

"Hmm, I see." I put my hand over my chin and looked down and pondered for a bit.

If that's the case...

Does she like her?

If so, it would pain me to see them together, but I'm not?

Arghhh! How is this very confusing!?

"We can go back now. Let's go have dinner." This time, I took her by the hand gently and pulled her along with me.

I guess I'll just have to figure this out sooner or later

But for now, I'll just watch and take care of these two.

It's shorter than what I used to write but it's an update.

Also, sorry for not updating last time! This one is supposedly for last week.

Anyhow, that's my first Mahiru x Hikari fic but not exactly.
