KABANATA LXXVIII

Third Person's POV

She didn't know where she was or how long she had been there. For the first time, she felt strangely peaceful. Tapos na ang lahat. She could finally escape the suffering that had followed her all her life.

There was no sound, no warmth, no sensation—only the emptiness inside her mind. Every ounce of hope, determination, and willpower seemed to have been drained from her, leaving nothing but a hollow soul drifting through oblivion.

Then—

"Everly!"

But when she opened her eyes, there was nothing.

Only darkness.

"Everly! Everly, it's me! Your sister!"

Napalingon siya sa kanyang likuran. Muling umalingawngaw ang boses ng babae, and this time, her heart immediately recognized it.

That voice. Her sister.

It was faint at first, barely visible against the darkness, but it continued to grow.

Everly stared at it. If that was where her sister's voice was coming from, then she had to reach it.

She forced herself forward.

But the stronger Crizelle's voice became, the more determination returned to her.

Hope and desperation collided inside her chest. She ran.

Ngunit bago pa siya tuluyang makalapit sa liwanag, an invisible force suddenly stopped her.

She pressed both hands against the unseen barrier and pushed with everything she had.

"Padaanin ninyo ako!" Her voice echoed through the void. She struck the barrier again.

"Please! Padaan ninyo ako!" Ngunit nanatiling matigas ang harang.

"You're just wasting your energy." Napahinto si Everly.

The weary voice came from behind her.

Dahan-dahan siyang lumingon, her breath catching as she saw the woman standing several feet away.

She was tall and imposing, yet there was something broken about her. Her face carried centuries of exhaustion, sorrow, and regret. Her eyes were familiar.

Too familiar. Parang nakatingin siya sa sarili niyang repleksyon.

"It's me," the woman said quietly. "Weresfia." Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Everly.
