Chapter 1 Three Gifts

My name is Wats Resero, and I am from a town called Fortuna. Today is my 17th birthday as well as my reveal ceremony. Everyone has a hidden soul skill, and it will be revealed by the time they are 17. Sometimes it manifests earlier but otherwise all inhabitants of the Humana Empire of Facultas go through a reveal ceremony to find out their hidden soul skill(s). There are 5 types and 4 classes of soul skills. The types being Personality, Combat, Magic, Nature and Misc. People with personality types skills are often referred to as "commons", Combat type skill holders are often referred to as "Combatants" even though not all Combat type skills directly relate to fighting. Magic type skill holders are referred to as "mages", and Nature type skill holders are either called "flora" or "fauna". The classes are like a level of power of someone's soul skill. This is determined by the power potential, and maximum capacity of output. The weakest is green, then blue, then gold and finally black. There are myths that describe levels higher than black but those are just that, myths. Soul skills can be mastered, grow stronger and then sometimes even awaken derivative skills which are usually a bit lower in power class than the initial soul skill. It is common sense to want a powerful skill because then it opens a lot of doors and opportunities. Large companies and even the kingdoms sometimes fight for powerful soul skill holders. Plus more powerful soul skill holders more often than not give birth to powerful soul skill holders. I just hope I can reveal a useful soul skill.

I really want to unlock at least a blue level skill, which should not be too hard since both my parents are blue level soul skill holders. My dad is a "common" and has a blue level personality type skill [instruct]. This makes it really easy for him to break down concepts and be able to teach others, as well as give advice based on information. Which is probably why he is a financial advisor with the local magistrate. My mom is a mage and has a blue level magic type skill [water manipulation]. This makes her blue water mage. This soul skill allows her to manipulate water in different phases. She is a medical assistant and a person in charge of water purification and distribution. My mom's twin brother also has [water manipulation] but he is a gold level soul skill holder. This just means that my Uncle is more powerful and can manipulate more water than my mom at one time. He is a commander for the royal army. My oldest sister Rei is a combatant and has a blue level combat type skill [blade maestro] which allows her to freely utilize any type of blade. She is a knight with the royal guard of the Humana empire, which our small Fortuna town is a part of.

One of my best friends and little sister-like figure is an elf named Lilin, and she had her reveal ceremony last month. She is a flora and has a blue level nature type skill [germination], which I am not entirely sure what it does yet as she hasn't really practiced with it too much, but she already has offers to some good Magic/Nature colleges and even some government positions. There was a rumour that the former Western Elf king also had a gold level [germination] so there is apparently a lot of hope for her. She is also a red level caster of healing and blessing magic.

Honestly though I just hope for a skill that can allow me to live comfortably. Maybe something that will allow me to become an adventurer that searches in the labyrinths or fights the savage magical beasts. Or something that will let me earn a comfortable income, and although jobs are not based solely on soul skills it would help to have some form of compatibility. I am hoping that I will at least keep the level of blue in my family.

"Wats-ani, hey Wats-ani!" I hear, which snaps me out of my stupor.

I turn and see one of my little sisters, Beph. Laughing I say "Yeah, what's up Beph?"

"Shouldn't you be getting ready" She harrumphs

"Haha okay fine, you're right."

Beph isn't related to me by blood, she is a petite fox beastkin girl who looks like she could pass as a middle schooler.She has black hair like me, brown eyes, and fox ears (she usually covers up) and a bushy fox tail. She has been acting like a real little sister to me and calling me ani (short for aniki) since the day I met her in the woods. However she is actually older than me by more than a year and even has dual soul skills!She is primarily a fauna with blue level nature type [animal communication] as well as a common with blue level personality type [shy]. I honestly do not know what [shy] does but her animal communication allows her to speak to animals and even control them sometimes, however she repeatedly says she would never take control of animals to do any kind of cruelty. She is attending the Fortuna school of Magic and Nature as a biology student.
