Chapter 20 Basis of Magic spells

After I ate dinner with my parents for the first time in a few weeks, I went back upstairs to continue my research on the baseline concept, variable input, and concept tie formations. I probably should do my actual homework but this is way more interesting to me. I grab all my magic books and put them in my infinite storage. I grab a few stacks of paper, and lastly a few blank slot scrolls. Scrolls are one-time use artifacts, blank slot scrolls are enchanted with a spell the same way other slotted artifacts are enchanted, they just burn away after use. This makes them really useful for testing new magics and practicing new spells.

I head downstairs and tell my mom I'm going to the school practice gym, I was really excited but I didn't explain too much of what I was going to try to do. I went out the back door, and chain [warp] to school. I could have opened a [portal] but those stay open until the caster closes them or they run out of energy to absorb, and I don't really want random animals or people [portal]ing between school and my backyard.

When I get to the practice gym, I set up a ward to make sure I don't break any part of the building this time. I bring out all my spell books and trace different spell circles on the paper I brought. I decide to do three spells of each level between white and blue of each type of magic. I highlight all the baseline concepts from the book in one color for each spell. This takes a few hours to transcribe all my chosen spells and highlight the baseline concept formations. Then I activate [conceptualize] in order to connect the dots of the concepts, variables, and ties. I see the spell circles in different colors again. The baseline concept formations I highlighted from the book are all brown no matter what type of spell they are. The majority of each spell circle is the same whitish silver color. I associate that with the concept ties. What surprised me most though was that no matter what level spell I looked at the same five colors appeared. Yellow, blue, red, green, purple. What changed was how often those colors appeared in each spell circle, some spells didn't have all five colors. The higher level the spell the more the baseline concept formations appeared, the denser the area of concept tie formations, and the more colored sections in the spell circle. I started to notice patterns in the way the formations appeared. Each color only had a few different formations.

Most of the concept tie formations I drew from the [earth waves] spell were only in the elemental category spells. When I noticed that, I was going to add a couple of notes that the formations were for the elemental category of magic. There was one formation that stood out in the whitish silver, it appeared in every single spell from every category. I drew it and labeled it as the "universal" concept tie formation. I also noticed that it was the main formation that linked the whitish silver areas with the colored and brown areas. Then I spent time recording the different concept tie formations for each category of magic. I must have spent hours just sitting in the practice gym drawing, small formations in magic circles. Every category had five different formations on top of the "universal" tie formation for a total of six each, so a total of 26 concept tie formations. Then I noticed that other than the "universal" concept tie, the other concept formations of each category are found around specific colors. I concluded that each concept tie is category-specific to a certain variable. I notice that the amount of concept tie formations is also proportional to the amount of the baseline concept formations. I decided to do an experiment.

I pulled out a piece of paper and drew the baseline concept for 'light' three times equidistant from each other. Then I drew one formation from the yellow variable formations two times in the middle of the triangle. I pick the concept tie around the yellow for the elemental category of magic and draw it connected to each 'light' concept formation. Then I draw the universal concept tie and draw it to each concept tie formation I drew before. I continue to draw concept tie formations connecting each baseline concept formation to each variable formation. It looks like a magic spell circle. Using that image I begin to construct a magic circle to look like the one I just drew. When it completes a small ball of light appears and shoots forward hitting my ward. I cast it again and the ball of light appears and shoots forward and hits my ward again.

I repeat what I did before but change the variable formation. This time the ball of light flies to my right. I change the variable formation to another "yellow" formation and the ball of light flies backward. I finally draw a magic circle with the last "yellow" formation and the ball of light stays still above me. I then smack my forehead because this is the exact spell for white level fire spell [light ball]. I conclude that "yellow" variable formations in spells are formations for movement. I don't know what time it is but I decide to keep experimenting.

I experiment for a few more hours at the practice gym, and I figure out the different colors I see for the variable formations. Yellow formations are for movement, blue is for breaking or destroying, green is for mending or restoring, purple is to increase, and red is to decrease. Combined with the baseline concept formations and the 26 concept tie formations I can probably create any spell I want.

When I thought that I felt a familiar headache. I close my eyes and enter my inner world to see that my [unlock] skill is blinking really fast. I activate it and not one but two tendrils of energy appear at my [magic manipulation] soul skill and my [conceptualize] soul skill. The tendrils of energy join into one blue derivative skill (spell concept).

I checked my phone to realize that I had done it again. The warning bell will ring in about half an hour, I just spent the whole night practicing magic at the training gym again.... I realize that I am quite tired and feel a little drained, but I am also really excited this is the next step to realizing true combination magic. I put away everything, my books, formation drawings, and notes on each formation. Then I wash my face before heading towards my homeroom.
