Chapter 66 My Older Sister Becomes My Dependant

A couple of weeks from when we became gold-ranked adventurers, we were visiting my parents. Although I talk to them on the phone pretty frequently I rarely go home anymore. We are preparing for Rei's birthday, but my parents seem more nervous than usual.

"Mom, Dad, why are you guys so high-strung?" I ask curiously

"Oh umm well it's your sister's birthday and everything needs to be perfect..." My mom answers shakily

"Geez, the last time I saw you guys so worried was when you met Emperor Bantran..." I say then realize that is exactly why they are so nervous. I had gotten used to speaking casually to and about Bantran and the whole royal family because I am engaged to Anne, but that isn't really the case for my parents. In fact, they still get nervous around Anne, Cara, and Iris since they all have quite high positions but I can't really imagine how nervous they must be about not only Rei's fiance the crown prince, but the main royal family (Bantran, his first 4 wives and all their kids) was coming to our home.

"Yes, now we have to make an especially good impression so as not to ruin your sister's engagement." my dad answers back sternly.

"That isn't likely, Geordo is absolutely taken with Rei, and although she doesn't show too much emotion she seems really happy with Geordo," I answer calmly

"But still even if he loves her, she can still be demoted as to which wife she is. We already acknowledge that her position as his current first wife is due solely to your position and you being her brother..." my dad informs me nervously

"Wats, have you figured out what you are going to do after school?" My mom rushes to change the topic for some reason

"I'm going to develop the land granted to me. It is going to take quite some time since the majority of it is undeveloped and considered wastelands. Why the sudden change of the topic?" I ask suddenly curious

"Umm well, how do we say this? With you and your sister's positions to consider we were thinking about legally ceasing to be your parents... That way lineage can not hinder you two for anything." My mom answers nervously

"What?!? No!" I shout loudly

"It makes sense though, You could act as the heir to your own Viscountancy, and Rei would be associated as your sibling. You would be true nobles, and it would make it so that we couldn't interfere and so that people can not bother you two through us because we would no longer be your parents." My dad explains shakily

"But you are still our parents! You can't just quit being our parents?!" I shout angrily. I rush out the door and find Anne, helping Cara and Lilin to set up some decorations. I quickly explain why I am upset to them and they calm me down and call my other 6 fiancees over. Anne also explains the nuances of the higher nobility.

"Technically it is possible to remove them from your family register, and you and Rei would serve as the true beginning of House Magias." Anne states after I had calmed down and she had explained some things.

"Is there another way that Uncle and Aunty could stay as their parents and still not have to worry about causing disputes of lineage?" Lilin asks timidly

"Disputes of lineage would only come into play if Anne were to try to inherit the throne or if Wats wanted to marry our kids off for political reasons. Even then only to certain families. The child of the Hero marrying into a family or marrying into the House of Magias would give huge benefits on its own..." Cara states plainly

"I can't even think about marrying off our kids, but I would rather they find someone or someones that they can love," I answer softly.

"Although that would be preferable, it would depend on the situation as well. Sir, as a noble you do have a responsibility to produce an heir." Gabrielle adds solemnly
