Chapter 4 Combination of Elemental Magic
To my astonishment the title of the unreadable section is "Magic Theory and the Combination of Elemental Magics of Different Types" I started reading the revealed section. It stated that each type of magic had a baseline of concepts. A magic circle is different for each spell, and each spell builds details around the baseline concepts. Therefore if a mage is proficient at multiple types of magic then they would be able to recognize the baseline concepts in a magic circle and incorporate it into a new magic circle which would cost the mage the same amount of mana for one spell of the level they are combining elements but an increase in power of anywhere from three to five times the initial power of the individual elements of that level. The text then gave an example of the gold level fire type spell [lightning storm]. It took most of the parts of that magic circle from fire by taking the concepts heat, compress, and fire. However the reason it took so much energy to cast a single time was because it also took parts from water and air elements. Concepts of rain and wind respectively. However the soul skills of most mages only refers to one or two elements. This allows them to draw energy into themselves efficiently from the elements of their soul skill. The rest of the energy from different elements must be supplemented by their own soul energy. Basically it was describing that the mana used in higher class spells is the energy necessary to supplement what the mage couldn't naturally refine from the element(s) that they focus on. This also helped to explain why different types of magic were more effective against different opponents and in different environments.
The book continued into some magic 101 basics on how different elements react to each other. Water suppresses fire and enriches earth, earth suppresses air and enriches fire, fire suppresses earth and enriches air, air suppresses water and enriches fire. The conflicting reactions is why advanced spells that combine elements in part are so powerful.
That is all that was a part of the hidden section of the textbook, however I now see the next part from a new perspective. The next part is broken down concepts for each element to start building white level magic spells. If only the concepts of elements in this textbook had the part(s) that they correspond to in the actual magic circles drawn out, I would be able to start practicing combination magic with much lower energy consumption.
Therefore I must understand the baseline concepts from each element as a mage I can then combine these concepts which in of themselves have low mana requirements into different spells that are way more powerful than each individual element. Plus since my soul skill allows me to efficiently draw in all types of magic energy my soul energy doesn't need to deplete as much to cast higher tier spells. I decide to enroll in the magic enrichment studies at school. I might even be able to ask some of the teachers to help breakdown the concepts within the magic circles. Plus since all the teachers in the magic enrichment courses are mages between green and blue they probably already unscrambled the hidden pages by pouring in mana. Just as an experiment I decide to combine full spells of different elements. I'll try something easy first. My first goal is to see if combining different spells individually decreases the soul energy required. In order to do that I set up a practice dummy in the gym. I find the white level fire spell [ember] which by itself is a weak flame that can be thrown as an attack magic. I throw it at the dummy, and as expected it hits but is easily fizzled out. I tried to determine how much mana I used for that spell but it was negligible. I try again and this time add a significant amount of mana into the magic circle, easily filling it to it's max and throw the ember again. The [ember] blazes out like a red level [fireball] and catches the dummy on fire. It continues to burn for a few seconds before the training gym system extinguishes the dummy. I inspect the dummy to find light scorch marks on it characteristic of a normal [fireball]. "So if you intentionally add mana into magic circles they themselves become more powerful. Well of course they would." I mutter to myself. All this time our studies have been about the speed of casting and to draw the energy from the surroundings to cast magic, intentionally adding more mana from your soul energy was considered a waste of time for white and red level spells because without the energy processing efficiency of having a magic skill it's difference is not much. I quickly check at how much soul energy I used in that last spell and it equates to about .025% of my soul energy and is automatically recovering from the surrounding energy. So I could cast a fully charged white spell equivalent to a red spell which costs me twice as much energy about 40 times. I make a mental note of that.
