Chapter 31 Engaged to Royalty

I slept over at the estate again. I didn't realize how tired the duel with the black prince made me yesterday. I took a shower and changed but then fell asleep right after. Apparently, Quin tried to retrieve me for dinner but Cara told her to let me sleep. Quin woke me up in the morning in time for school, and I went down to the dining room for breakfast.

"Onii-chan!! Congratulations" Ciara greeted me happily

I figured she was congratulating me on being able to win against the black prince yesterday or advancing my soul skill to gold level. "Thanks, Cici." I've started calling Ciara Cici, as a show of affection. She says that I am the only one that will ever be allowed to call her that. "It was harder than I expected but things turned out for the best," I said with a smile

"I'm sure since it's Onii-chan everyone will be happy too. It's not like you will be only limited to one." Ciara chimed in happily. She then sits down and begins to eat breakfast.

Marchioness Richards comes down next. "Good morning Wats, I heard the good news congratulations. What are your plans?" She asked

"Morning Aunty. Umm school then enchanting with Herrero today, same as before." I say with a slight smile

"I meant further than just today. His majesty sent a message that this weekend he wants to see you. How are you planning to travel, what preparations will you need? I may only be your figurative aunt but let me know if there is anything we can do for you." She says with a smile

"Oh, I didn't realize his majesty sent a message for me to meet him?" I say slightly confused

"Did Anne not tell you?" Cleione asked lightly

"Huh, tell me what? I'm sorry Aunty I feel like I have missed something, after the duel with Prince Artifice yesterday I kind of just crashed when we got here." I answered apologetically

"Oh well, it has been approved. His majesty has acknowledged it." Cleione answers cheerfully

"Umm acknowledged what exactly?" I say really confused

"Your engagement to Princess Anne of course. Didn't you propose yourself as a marriage candidate yesterday when you dueled against Prince Artifice?" She asks back as if that was the most logical thing

Thinking back on that I did propose the duel for her hand in order to save her from having to marry the Black Prince. I got caught up in the moment, and the fear of having to sit back and watch Anne be unhappy drove me to challenge the prince. But I didn't want to force her into another marriage. Oh, she probably hates me now. I didn't save or protect her at all just changed who she would be engaged to, plus I blew her secret... She is probably really mad at me right now. I didn't even ask how she felt about any of it yesterday, I just jumped into a fight and forcefully inserted myself as her fiance. Plus walking back here she had hung back and didn't really talk. She was probably regretting that either way, she wouldn't be able to find someone she loved as she wanted. I have to find her and apologize. "Excuse me," I say standing up from the table. I head to Princess Anne's room, trying to think of my apology.

I knock on the door, expecting her to be angry that she is forced into a marriage that she doesn't want, but she answers the door. She is already dressed in an elegant dress, her golden hair braided like a crown. I saw how beautiful she looked this morning and my apologies for forcing her to marry me got stuck in my throat.

"Oh, good morning Wats. I didn't expect it to be you knocking. I thought you were Leigha." She says casually

"I'm sorry," I say sadly, trying to convey everything I was sorry for in those two words.
