Chapter 36 Successful Failure and More Students

After dinner, I told Anne and Cara that I was going to the armory to work on something and asked them to come to get me in a couple of hours. First I activated my (spell concept) and pull out my magic textbooks. I am able to quickly formulate an 'increase' spell circle for each magic category. I then engrave the three new magic circles into patches of leather. With the success of the other two this afternoon I am pretty confident in these new circles so I only test to see if they activate as spell circles. I then pull out a very large bone from one of the earthen warty pigs that I killed earlier. I begin carving a staff while pouring my mana into it. According to Herrero, carving multiple magic circles into an artifact is possible but not recommended because anytime mana is run through it it will activate every circle on the artifact unless someone is extremely careful with mana control which would take away the benefit of the speed of artifacts. It also can make an artifact burn up and become too brittle. However, this can sometimes work when magics of the same category act together upon activation of the artifact, like the wand I made for Cara. I was able to run mana through all five magic circles at the same time. The only problem was that it cost the mana of casting a blue-level spell by itself. I can't use catalyst materials to help reduce the energy like with other artifacts because the materials would interfere with the other types of magic. However, that was when I remembered something and I brought out my Fyreed Order medal. It is protected from being faked, or stolen and magically linked to my own soul, and it is also made out of the magic metal Fyreed, which can act as a catalyst of every type of magic. I carve the five magic circles with the seal and auto draw formations while pouring my mana into the staff the whole time. I continue to pour more and more mana and carve out a slot for my Fyreed Order medal.

In order to make sure that the whole staff and medal is still tied to my soul I place it down and leave the armory. I then try to focus on the medal and after about half a minute the staff flies out from the armory back into my hand. I then cast [warp] to go over to the practice field. I set up a few targets and began to test the staff.

With the aid of the medal embedded into the staff as a catalyst every time I activate different types from every category of magic. All five magic circles activate with every spell, but only the one from the category of the spell I use actually takes effect. The extra mana drawn for each spell isn't negligible like other enhancement artifacts but it is only about the level of an additional white level spell. The extra energy cost is completely offset by the increased power output of my spells though. Every spell I unleashed was multiplied by about 8 times. When I tried to unleash {fiery slash} it came out almost 16 times more powerful than usual. To unleash it with the staff costs me the mana of about two and a half white spells and already is as strong as some gold level spells. The staff I just made may not look nice but it is pretty powerful. After I finish with some more pseudo combination magic, I check the time. Anne and Cara will probably come out to get me soon so I should head back. I cast [warp] and go back to the armory, but when I get there I suddenly get really dizzy, like when I first used the [earth rhino] spell. I must have used too much mana and soul energy I think to myself. Suddenly I lose balance and collapse and my vision goes black.

"Anne should we go get Wats, he has been out there for a couple of hours already," Cara asked curiously

"Yeah, but let's give him 15 more minutes. You know how into his experiments he gets" Anne answered calmly

"Hahaha yeah. Good thing he told us to get him otherwise he might stay out there until we have to go to school." Cara said, smiling cheerfully
