Chapter 37 Before We Journey to the Capital

After I came back to class from the Director's office, the school day passed by normally. During lunch, I texted Beph to meet us at the guild after school because we have to discuss how we are all getting to the capital and I want to license the other three magic circles to Herrero. She just responded 'k'.

"Gee, over 100 years of magical artifact research to finally give us the ability to communicate over large distances and she responds with a single letter..." I mutter to myself looking at Beph's reply. 125 years ago when Devil Lord Kxhaoix first descended artifacts could barely produce a single spell, and they were a lot harder to use. The most powerful artifacts became treasures in the fight against devils which is how the Artifice Kingdom rose to power. Then after the war with the help of the Summoned Hero, artifacts were researched more and became more easily accessible. In the last 25 years, the Artifice Kingdom released the Cell phone artifact for consumer use, it is relatively cheap and accessible to everyone as a communication tool, so it quickly became an everyday object, though the base spell isn't known by many people; multiple companies have arisen that make different models, and different added functions.

"The creator of the cell phone magic circle is a Fyreed Order Mage Second Class. When he released the magic circle, he had it sealed as a Fyreed Order secret. If you are really that annoyed Darling you can find the magic circle in the Fyreed Archives and then tweak it so texts are longer than a single letter." Anne says teasingly

"Wah, no that would be going backward in the development of artifact technology..." I answer back surprised

"Hahahaha, you get mad at the weirdest things with Beph. Sometimes I wonder if she is really the younger sister..." Lilin laughs

"... Well she is older but I.." I start to answer back

"I know, I know some of the stories. Plus she looks younger than you anyway." Lilin says back laughing

"Actually I am curious how you all met, would you mind telling me?" Anne asked

"Oh me too?" Cara added pleadingly

"This does sound like an intriguing topic." Circe chimed in

"If it was allowed I also would like to hear about milord's past" Colna added

"... Umm lunch is almost over, so we can talk about this after school when we go to the guild." I hesitantly answered back. I then stand up and gather up the trash from everyone's lunches and go to throw it all away.

When lunch was finished, I went to Magic Theory with Anne and Cara. The class seemed really lively but calmed down when we walked in. I exchanged some greetings with Sakura, Alze, and Cale. I told them that we were going to the capital but maybe after I get back we can get together to study a bit. I also asked Sakura if she had any chance to practice with the new water spells we came up with together. She said yes and we happily chatted about the results of the modified spells until the bell rang.

After Magic Theory I went with Cara to Spirit/Mind Studies. I chatted with Circe, and Trixie, while Cara went to talk with Rachel. Kite looked like he was sulking in the back of the classroom but I waved to him and he waved back before pulling out his textbook and shutting us out.

When Spirit/Mind Studies was finished, I said bye to Rachel, Trixie and Kite, then walked with Cara and Circe towards our last classes for the day.

After Elemental Studies, I went with Anne to our usual meet-up spot by the front gate of the school. When the rest of the party joined us we started walking towards the guild, but for some reason, it felt like there were more people staring at our group than usual. However, since I couldn't really detect any hostility I decided to just let it go.
