Chapter 29 Change Brings Commotion

The day after the banquet we completed a simple fetch quest. I didn't even think about how things would start to change when I went back to school after becoming a noble (in name only right now) and receiving the Fyreed Order of Mages First Class.

I had stayed at the estate so I walked with Princess Anne and Cara to school. Since only a few people who attended the banquet are adventurers, and the only students that attended are a part of our Party, Anne wasn't worried about being exposed. Director Justo is also in agreement and said he is willing to use spirit/mind magic to erase memories if necessary. But, when we arrived at school there was a huge commotion. I instantly went on alert and brought Cara and Anne behind me.

We navigated towards the school and were able to avoid the majority of the crowd. Since we didn't really want to deal with the commotion we headed toward homeroom early. There we ran into Chishiki.

"Hey Chishiki, do you know what's going on and why there is such a commotion outside?" I asked casually

"Umm, I'm not too sure myself. I think it is some new books" He answered before he turned to me "Congratulations, I also heard you are now a noble. But if you want me to keep quiet about it I understand" He says with a smile

"Umm yeah please," I say. Since most people ignored me most of the time I figured the news about me becoming a noble, as well as receiving the Fyreed Order wouldn't be that big of a deal but still didn't really want the extra attention. Soon Lilin arrives at class.

"Hey, you alright?" I asked her

"Yeah, I'm fine. But you might want to not come to school for a couple of days." Lilin responds flatly

"Wow, gee luhv yah too. As soon as I achieve something you don't want to see me and want me to not come to school?" I say jokingly

"I know you are joking, but I'm serious. That commotion outside is because of you." Lilin states seriously

"Because of me? What why?" I ask back confused

"The first release of the new magic theory books were printed and were sent to the schools. We got 30 of the first 50 books printed. Many other high schools and magic schools in the area are arguing about favoritism and unequal distribution of resources. Most of them don't even realize that the reason we got the majority of the first print of books is that the author of two of the new theories in the book is actually a student here. Also, you were announced as a recipient of the Fyreed Order of Mages First Class, but no information was given except what theories you submitted and your name as Viscount Magias so it has angered more people that they can not obtain new resources and we a public school gets the majority of the first print ordered by the Emperor." Lilin whispers seriously

"So people are saying we got the lion's share of the new resources because Cara's father and Kier's uncle is Marquis Richards? Do you think people would try to target them?" I ask worriedly

"I won't say it is impossible," Lilin answers sadly

"Then you should know that I now I especially can not abandon them," I answer back firmly

"Figures. I will help you as much as possible, the rest of the party is also in agreement." Lilin whispers back

I then turn to Cara and Anne and explain the situation. They agree to be careful and as much as possible remain with another party member at all times.

When the bell rang, Mr. Smith came into the class. "Mr. Resero, Lady Kiers, Lady Cara please report to Director Justo's office." He announced first.
