Life in the Underground was as miserable as it gets; hardly any food to feed the ever-starving mouths, filth littering everywhere you turned to look, violence at every corner of the way and an overwhelming lack of money greeted you in every single face.
It was hard to thrive in a rotten place like the Underground. Not many got the pleasure to do such, as only those who turned to malice were able to do so. In order to provide for those you loved, you had to turn into the dark side of the world and do things that maybe once you weren't keen of ever doing; but the conditions there change you, for better or for worse, and you are forced to face the cruel realities of the place you call home; no matter how vile they could be.

Violet's parents didn't have a choice anymore.
As much as it pained them, the severe poverty they were living in made them bow down to the unthinkable. Years ago, they would've denied it with all their hearts of ever having to turn to such an extreme, they would've prevented it with all their mights; they loved their daughter very much, so that thought would've never crossed their minds. However, circumstances change and it got to the point that doing what pained them the most, was the salvation to them all.
Violet's mom was slowly succumbing to a fast devouring illness. Every day, instead of getting stronger, she got as weak as the thinnest stick and could hardly keep her guts down even though she hadn't consumed anything for the past four days. It was worrisome and it pained Violet just as much to see her mother in such a state. She would do anything to get her mother out of the eternal suffering she would constantly be in. Anything at all. Even switch bodies and endure it all.

But this wasn't something she would do.
Although she would do the absolute world for her mother, this was something she would've never agreed on, not even in the most desperate of situations.

Violet looked up to her father in tears, agony painting her innocent features as the grip in her father's hand trembled with fear yet got tighter with the force of a storm. Her throat felt dry and heavy, unable to gulp down the immense fear she was feeling and the scream she so desperately wanted to deliver. Her mind was a silent wind, the shock getting rid of her ability to think. Her body was paralyzed, and all she could do was watch as her father extended his hand and grabbed the money her poor daughter was apparently worth for.

They were selling her.
They were selling her like some livestock and leaving her alone in a crowd full of unrecognizable faces.

Violet couldn't comprehend why this was happening, when they had told her so many uncountable times that they would love her and keep her safe. When they promised her that they would work hard for her, so that they could provide her with the world and their eternal love.
This was not what they promised. This was not what they said. This wasn't the eternal love they told her they would give.
This was betrayal beyond comprehension. It was a world of promises that shattered in front of her and unraveled the cruel truth of the world: that humans lie and betray those who they hold close for their own beneficial gain. It felt like the world was coming to an end, when in reality it was just another night in the Underground.
"Come here, sweetie," a rottenly sweet voice said, "I just want to take a look at you."
Her father abruptly let go of her hand and pushed her towards the man. The unnamed man grabbed Violet by the shoulders and held her firmly against his chest, his awfully warm breath coming in touch with her skin as he said into her hair, "Now be a good girl and smile and say goodbye."

All Violet could do was watch as her father left with no daughter in hand, instead with a stash of cash in the hand she once gripped with all her might.

Ever since that fateful night, they trained Violet to the ground.
As soon as the night turned day, Violet was up and training her ass out. They had her run for hours long till she couldn't feel her chest due to the burning sensation of her lungs in desperation for some air. They would train her to be as fast as the light, even though the process had her wishing they would knock her out with the same kind of speed they were wishing out of her with.
Next, they would have her eat filth with kids twice her age. Hand to hand combat was terrible for her, as she did not know shit about what she was meant to do with her little fists. But it was all about instinct, right? So they said, as up and down she went, getting up as soon as her face made contact with the dirt. Her little five years of age were nothing compared to some ten, eleven year old kid who clearly had more experience than her two little fists ever had. However, Violet would be damned if they knocked her out. So, regardless if it felt as if they loosened her teeth up and that a beautiful bruise would colour her face the next given day, she got up and started all over again till it was time to take a break.
Then, there was her favorite: weaponry. Although she knew wack shit about what each weapon could do, something about a good dagger and a bow and arrow excited her beyond what words could explain.

And so the training went for years, even after her first mission at the age of six. Apparently one year of pure training had built her well enough to send her out to the Underground and claim a life with her bare hands. Even if she was repulsed with the idea of one human claiming the life of another, it had to be done. And she did it so well, that by the age of eleven she was the most feared assassin in the Underground. Her reputation was so feared and known, the people had started calling her 'The Silent Assassin'.
Her methods of killing were so clean, violent and brutal yet no one ever heard when she came and left. Not even when the blade sliced the skin and sucked the life of the victim in her hands.

They had trained her so well to be the perfect weapon, the perfect assassin, that they even broke her mind while at it. She was taught to not fear death, to do all possible to get a mission through, even if that decision put her life in the line. They brainwashed her mind, made her fear nothing and keep her mind cool and collected even in the most nerve-wrecking situations. Her emotions were collected, hardly ever shown, which is what made her the most ruthless and dangerous assassin out there.

She was the most feared assassin in the Underground, that even the people above ground shivered by the slightest mention of her name. Such a power house name she had created for herself, that everyone feared:

Violet Grey.
